105 A MAX in a 1-10 twist?

I don't have near as much experience as most of the other guys here, but I have a .243 AI and I have never had any luck with anything heavier than 85 grains. Then again, the rifle is a full custom and capable of half inch or so consistently, so if I accepted something bigger than half inch, it would be OK. As in an inch or so.
You might look on Berger's website, they have a twist rate stability calculator that might be helpful.

I have never heard of anybody with a 10tw running a 105 of any kind. I have never had a 10tw but I have heard some say they can't run anything bigger than a 95 and others say a 100g. I believe that is because some are not a true 10tw. You don't know for sure unless you check it. Most factory barrels are off a little. As in a 10.5 or 9.5 or close to those twists.

I very much do it. Some 1-9"button rifled barrels have trouble running them. A 10 in my estimation is too slow.

Sir, they will not shoot in my 10 twist tikka, i can see oblong holes at 100 yds on my target. 95 gr partitions shoot very well. painter

1:10 wont work for them things. You'll need a 1:9 or better. I had a 243 with 1:10 and they didn't work at all. They stabilize in a 1:8 no problems.

Hunting buddy uses them in his 240 Wea. 10tw. It's his winter stalking rig 26" Kreiger LV profile...It loves them.

Yep I know they say need 1-8...Just wondering as I think I remember a few guys say they were shooting them in a 1-10 and they shot great...Well I will shoot a few of them. just for fun to see what happens..
Thanks everyone..yea I don't think they will work but ah I have a few what the H*ll..

anyone ever try a 105 A max in a 1-10 twist ?
Any luck with them shooting in a 1-10 ?

They might shoot Ok at 100yds out of a rifle that pushes them fast enough. But I'd be a little timid about if or how stable they'd be at say 300 and further if you were going to shoot them that far. Try em and see I guess. Trigger time is always good for something. ;) WD

well I am using a 240WM I wonder if you know his altitude and load.
I loaded 3 105 A max's and fired them at 200 yards 1,000 FT 40 deg F. group was bad like 4" or so but the went threw the target straight..nice round holes..small and round so they did go threw straight. I loaded 5 105 VLD's up with a full case of powder same load I use for the 95's.. And shot them 800 yards just to see if they would hit close to where we were holding or if they just went into orbit..well they did hit where we were holding...not on paper just a rock on a steep gravel road...So I am going to load more and shoot them at some paper...I know all the fact's and I have used the twist calculator myself and I know it should not work but I am still going to play with it..

Man I really like this 240WM I am just a 105 class bullet fan..I do not think it will work. I have plans to duplicate this exact factory barrel in 240 but a 1-8 twist.but it is so expensive to do..fluted custom countor ect ect.. I just don't know if I will ever spend the money to do it when there are better options. plus I have two 6XC shooting the 105's and 115's..but I like this rifle and I am impressed how accurate this 240 case is just wish they would wake up and chamber it in a 1-8 twist..Weatherby said no plans to ever chamber the 240 in a 1-8 but they would gladly chamber me one or rebarrel this one in their custom shop...Yea like you could buy two rifles and a scope for the price they charge...Much less to go custom and local smith better job and half the price.

The airport here is @1242' (I think). He uses H-1000 (not sure on exact weight) but it gets around 3400 ish. His home range goes to 880 yds. and they go in straight as a arrow and sub MOA. It's on an aftermarket Kreiger smithed by a friend of his in Cedarfalls or Waterloo Ia.
