Redding competition shellholder

Sometimes it's not the answer, but the process that's educates those seeking knowledge that is most benificial.
I wish you guys a Merry Christmas. Hope I didn't hinder more then I helped.

Kevin, thank you. When someone tells me they move the shoulder back I ask: "HOW?" No one responds with "I do not know" "but I heard the guys at the pool hall talking about it so I am repeating what I heard". And no one considers new reloaders are impressionable. I start out by saying I find moving the shoulder back almost impossible; almost impossible because I can move the shoulder back without case body support but there is something about sizing a case reloaders on this forum do not understand; and it seems that makes bench resters wish they had never learned to read because they get angry.

What are they afraid of? I have bump presses, I can not bump a shoulder but reloaders on this forum have mastered the '.002" bump'. Again, I have bump presses, I also have non bump presses. Where did the word 'bump' come from? And why does Starrett insist on spelling gage g-a-g-e.

Please explain how the original poster managed to bump his shoulder 0.005"? His problem is not that he can't bump the shoulder, but that he is bumping it too much. Perhaps you should ask him how to bump shoulders, if you don't know how?

Starrett isn't the only company to use the gage variation. Brown & Sharpe, MSC, Long Island Indicator Service, etc; continue to use this particular variation of the word.

RonAKA, now that you are asking in a more civil manner I will ask again: Are you assuming you are moving the shoulder back while bumping. Again I ask what is the organ of 'bump'? When someone discovers 'the beginning' they will find it was the press that bumped, it bumped without a case. back then presses came with instructions; bump press adjustments were different than non bump press instructions.

And then that 'sorta' got me sideways with reloaders that use the Rock Chucker press; they would bump this and that and they would cam over and I would ask just how unfair is all of this because I have 3 Rock Chuckers and not one of them will bump and or cam over. One proud owner called RCBS and reported me, they listed a phone number and the name of a tech. person. To be a bump press the press must be a cam over press and I always ask if the press is a cam over press; "How much cam over does it have in thousandths?" and then? All I get is angry responses. Anyhow there is another term used by the company that invented Vise Grip Plyers. They invented the term 'Leaver Lock' somewhere back in the early 30s +/- a few years and someone invented the word 'binders', I have seen some ugly accidents caused by users of the tool.

Again I am asking if you are assuming when you size a case the case is getting shorter from the shoulder of the case to the case head because you moved the shoulder back.

F. G. You've beat this to death for no reason. It's all about having the shell casing fit the chamber without forcing it. Bumping is a term in the vernacular. Use whatever term you want. Push, bump, jam, crush, squash, AD NAUSEUM. Dealing in esoteric semantics, cryptic and condescending explanations is a waste of bandwidth.

Where has he been lately, when u posted that I was thinking the same thing. Is he still around here?

Ed is active on the new? Culver's Shooting Page forum. The old CSP was so socially dysfunctional it shut down and it is just an opinion but the shut down allowed them to delete the archives.

I corrected SCP To CSP

What is scp and csp? I miss bigedp51 post. He actually taught me alot and helped me out of some horrible mistakes I had made in the past. Plus his pictures were always delightful and funny

We are now into 'Vise Grips'.
I now accept there is no end to this.

"You're traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead - your next stop, the Twilight Zone"!

A number of folks like 'bigedp51' and 'catshooter' are missing. And bigedp51 sure did have some great illustrations. I learned a great deal from both and others.

Gee....I wonder why they are gone???? Then again everyone reaches a saturation point and a thread like this could do it.
I finally got my RCBS press to 'cam over' using 'killer firing pins' held on with dangerous vise grips and totally was able to remove the mystical cases that had head space.
Free at last!

IIRC, Catshooter went off the rails and got in to a heavy urinary olympic event with another member in some long forgotten thread. He's still listed as a member. Maybe his alter ego has returned in some other form? He was a good member that posted usable info.

Delightfully funny? I see no humor in laughing at someone, I believe in laughing with someone. And then there is the vulgar side, Ed can not function on a forum without enablers. I am not an enabler. On another forum he was identified as 'OVERT', the monitor of the forum identified me as 'COVERT'. And I wondered how that works, crimes against civil workers was called OVERT, the actions of law enforcement that allowed it to go unpunished was identified as COVERT. I am one of the few that did not allow ED to abuse other members. It was embarrassing for someone to be called a Moderator and allow that kind of behavior.I am still on the other forum, that does not mean the monitor is pleased I am there.

SHOCKING

You guys gotta give guffy a break. He's old school. When your learn and practice something that uses specific and detailed terminology and meaning and watch those terms become slang and tossed about almost meaningless it becomes very frustrating.
Read a bunch of articles on web Md. then go tell your doctor what you think you know. Pay close attention to that strange look on his face when you speak. Deal with those people everyday, especially when they have no interest in learning something new or proper, and it will turn you off to those people. I wouldn't mind having a cup of coffee with the guy and pick his brain just for fun.

Guffey, Dude...

You almost had me convinced, but:

This afternoon, there I was, sizing some 223, and listening to Maha Rushie, and BLAM !!!! my Goddamed loading press went and cammed over all by it's silly itself (withOUT my permission!).

Then the die bumped my case shoulder, and the shoulder ACTUALLY MOVED !!! It was even better than the time when the earth moved back with Martha and I...

... well never mind that.

This was cool!

Now, Guffy, Dude - what the hell do I do with this case??
