Ammo Can ID?

My brother has two GI type ammo cans with the stencils indicating M13, which I think is 7.62 linked belts. However, these are not the standard size M19 30 cal can, they are about 1/2 in narrower and an inch or so shorter. They actually look like they were made for 5.56 size ammo or belts. Does anyone know the designation for this can and where if anywhere, can they be found. If I can't find out, I'll have to make a trip to Knob Creek for the shoot in the spring!

Looked it up, M82 is the designation for a 7.62 blank, but it is still packed in a 30 cal can. Also found the M82 barrett 50 cal rifle, and what looked like a WW2 sniper scope, but no mini ammo cans.

Israel makes a 7.62 ammo can. We as in the US still use the 30cal can. I have several 7.62 cans and yes 223 fits in very nice.

Could you take a picture of one next to the standard 30 cal can? Even searching Israel ammo cans turns up all the standard cans. Beginning to think I haven't seen what I have seen.

Check ebay. I can only show what you described with the M13. It is indeed for linked 7.62 (see that little logo in front of the M13?) as it says in the photo.

I"m guessing what we(USA) call a 30 cal can was made for the 30-06 and when we switched to 7.62x51 we didn't make the switch to narrower cans? Wonder why Israel did?

I was asking member(people) if he had a picture of both together, he said he had the smaller one.

Correct. I would think metal savings alone would force us to change. You know as dies do not last forever.

You saw what you saw. Now I look like a lier. I can't find those cans. I remember lending a rifle and a can to a family member but now I don't remember getting the can back. I should still have one or two floating around but I can't find them. I will keep looking.

Most likely after the switch they continued to use the surplus cans until they were exhausted. Not to mention storage may have been designed around the larger cans and switching too soon would have left slop space in whatever container they used to ship the ammo around the world.
