6x47 Lapua Varget

About to start loading for a 6x47L in the near future. Going to be running 87 vlds for now. Was curious as to if anyone was running varget with this combo. What powder is everyone using for this weight range bullets in the 6x47L ? its a short barrel rig (18"). H4350 is hard to come by around here lately so thats not an option

I'm actually picking up my first 6x47 as soon as I get off work but I'll offer you my opinion based on owning two 16.5" 6.5x47s and having my 3rd chambered by skeetlee as we speak.

I would start at 35gr and work up to 41gr. I generally have found my node between 39gr-40gr. I expect the same out of my new one. Let us know what you come up with. My next barrel will be a 20" 6x47. Enjoy

you run 39-40 gr of varget in your 6.5s ? with what bullet? i run h4350 in my 6.5x47 with 130 vld. this 6x47L is a buddy's and im loading for it.

39.5gr Varget with a 123gr Amax. CCI 450. Barrel is a Bartlein 8.5 Twist. My previous barrel was a 8 twist and shot 39gr of varget with the 123 amax. Both barrels shot lights out with 37.5gr of Varget and 130 VLDs.

I believe you are referring to a 6.5 x 47 Lapua>>>>The OP is talking about a 6 x 47 Lapua..

Yes. I am aware of that. Even stated that in my first comment. My opinion is to start between 35gr and 40gr of Varget with the 87gr VLDS. I'm very confident in the advice I have given. So confident that I have a loading block full of 6x47 brass ready to be loaded. Weather permitting I will start load development with these exact components on Saturday. Along with 105 hybrids. P.S. Consider RL16. A fellow 6x47 shooter has informed me it's worth a try. He is seeing excellent results with it.

I am very excited about RL-16. I have a small "boatload" of H4350 and will use that for the time being. However, as soon as I run shallow on H4350, I am going to give RL-16 a good run for it's money! This is one powder in the last several years that really gets my attention!

Ditto. I'm definitely going to explore a couple powders this spring after coyote season. Including the new IMR powders!

I have used 36.0 grains of varget and 105 grain Berger hybrids and on warmer days I have experienced heavier bolt lift and ejector marks on the case head. I'm shooting them out of a 8 twist Shilen barrel. I had Berger do some work load data and 36.0 grains was their max also.

105 A-Max, 35 grains Varget, 0.03 jump in a 6x47L, 18 inch McGowan bull. Shoots so well that I quit looking.

What is the temperature sensitivity for RL 16 and RL 17? Don't like Varget burn temperature but do like the low temperature sensitivity.

I'm curious if you've tried the RL-16. I' use H-4350 in so many rifles but am tired of the availability problem. I find myself rationing the few pounds I have. If you've used it in the 6's let me know.

I still have a fair amount of H4350 yet>>>until that is depleted, I will use it..Then I am going to give RL-16 a shot!
