14 caliber rifle build

I think 14 caliber rifles are unique and wouldn't mind building one. The only problem is what action do people generally use when building these small caliber rifles? Any info would be great

Thanks, Zach

I would guess Hornet cases as well as the.30 carbine - may be all wet on that one. I'm not "into the sub sub cals. Something off a FBall? Lotsa pwdr for a 15 I am thinking.
5.7x28?? Knowledgeable answers will be interesting to me.

I have been considering making the parent case the 5.7 but Im still stumped on the action people use when building these sub caliber rifles..

check out saubier.com forums. There are guys there that make true mouse guns.

Martini action likely

The 14 Walker is on a Fireball case there is also a 14 based on the Hornet case. any 223 or Hornet action will work but the smaller the better. The CZ527 is a nice size and has appreciate bolt faces for either. The 5.7x28 is a cute little case but is hampered by very little support around the primer pocket.

The T/C contender, Ruger # 1 are action choices for positive extraction. I have been looking into a 14 Dart (25cap necked down to 14 caliber) and still looking for just an action. I've found the dies, barrel, bullets and cleaning equipment. I have 5000 New cases just collecting age...:D

If you do the .14 based off of the Fireball case you could use the model 7 action, or a 700.....

I would recommend a Savage action. They are very easy to head space with the barrel nut, and you can change blot faces in a couple of minutes. I shoot a 17 AH and and push a 19 gr. bullet at 3,600 fps. With a 14 AH and a liter bullet you might get close to 4,000 fps. Would you need a larger case?

I am waiting for a .14/221 Eichelberger, (based on the .221 Fireball), to come back from the gunsmith. The action is a BAT SV. I had thought of building on an Encore (look at Bullberry Barrel Works), then decided that a Remington action would be better for me since I could change barrels and use the same scope on the rifle. There is also the opportunity to have a really good trigger in a Remington or clone. My gunsmith ended up convincing me to go the BAT route, its not my first and was an easy sell. I will post the results after I get a chance to work up a load.

Can`t wait to hear about it..........

Look for a decent Cooper.
I have one of the 10 rifles Cooper made on the 38 action in .14 Walker Hornet which is about optimum case capacity. They made 5 with SS barrels and 5 in CM.The action is perfect for the cartridge class as are the small Sako actions.

Here is a .144 version of the 5.7x28FN.

Now I need to have a look at Cooper and Sako actions.

I read about a guy in Todd Kindlers .17 caliber book who had a CZ527 bolt bushed. He was doing a .17 cal version. I believe he use a hornet magazine and it fed.

I spoke with the gunsmith a few day ago, all the work is done on the barrel job and it should be shipped this week. I expect to post some pictures next week. Below is a .14/221 next to a 20 Vartarg.
