Any info and help in reproducing a "managed recoil" 308 round--

Remember hearing protection. I use a Harrell's brake on a light 20 inch 308 (hoghunter) and it makes a world of difference. I also use plugs and muffs. IMHO the noise can cause more problems than the recoil.

You need to be careful when making up greatly reduced loads for large-volume rounds. Ignition can become erratic and dependent on cartridge position. There are powders that have lower density than the usual made for doing this. I have some SR4759 but I don't know if it's still made or not. I know that Trail Boss is made to replace black powder in cartridges and is "fluffy" but I don't know if it's nasty like Pyrodex or clean burning.

That is true of most powders but H4895 is rated to 60% of maximum loads by Hodgdon in any cartridge that lists a load for the powder.

308 Win
H322 powder at 42.0 with 150gr Sierra BT
H322 with 130 Barnes Tipped TSX at 43.0

The 130gr Barnes TTSX load makes a excellent deer load for children, due to lower recoil in the 308 Win. (not bad for adults too :)

Federal Brass and Federal F210 Match primers

Another APA user, I have several different models they are very effective at reducing the felt recoil. Precision Rifle Blog did a review on several different brands of brakes. Few things are as effective at reducing felt recoil. I am recoil sensitive after multiple neck surgeries

My favorite light 308 load is 40.0 grain of H4895 with 150 Sierra Pro Hunter bullets. This load is extremely accurate in my rifles (in the 1/2 moa range) and the recoil is mild even in my light weight Tikka T3. For ultimate recoil reduction, the 125 grain Pro Hunter is better but the 150's shoot tighter in my rifle. Primer used: Federal 210 match.

I'm dealing with a shoulder issue and am changing to a decelerator pad and adding either lead or a C&H mercury reducer. Specific to brakes, what are the recommendations? Thanks

VIAS muzzle brake (pronounced VASE), makes a 300 Win Mag feel like a 308!

It is pronounced VI US with the I being a long I. I knew George quite well when he was in Houston during the late 70's/ early 80"s. Shot trap with him at Greater Houston and drank whiskey with him at some of the local watering holes.

if you're adding a brake you will not need to add weight . I like a side discharge brake . the radial brakes blow a lot of dirt when shooting from the prone position . I've got two brakes from
