If you go back a couple of pages in this same thread you will find what each of the parrent cases is.

Hope this helps

One Word on the chamberings - DAMN! Has anyone tried the bullets? The numbers I'm seeing for the BC is unconscious if true.

For those of you that have not seen these magnum chamberings, enjoy.

I suppose with any necked down case on the RUM any discussion of barrel life is a mute point. Are the words "badly overbore capacity" have any meaning to anyone any more?

I do think there is a place for a .375 on the Chey-Tac case, for vary limited use and the .338 Edge has a place, but the others?

The problem with most of this stuff is it's really 1950's thinking all over again. Old, old grounds, re-runs.

I've have always found it fascinating that people will spend a heck of a lot of money for a barrel that will be gone in a few hundred rounds.

The AM Cartridges are basically made for hunting and should probably be viewed in that light. Hunting rifles 'normally' see less rounds per sitting, and overall use than competition rifles. They were made for one thing and that is to deliver maximum retained energy at distance which is not necessary when punching paper.

As far as "old school" in 50 years I have not really seen anything that has not borrowed or in some way been based on the past, but I am open to enlightenment, as usual.

I'm not too interested in any of the cartridges described but the wildcatbullet concept is interesting!

Anyone here use these things for other than hunting use? They don't seem to be priced out of line either; are they routinely available or only by special order once a year?

I think a waisted design bullet might offer some benefits at Super-sonic speeds which is the most critical part of the flight envelope.

A waisted bullet would probably have an extra shock wave to go with the waist increasing drag. A straight bearing surface generally produce the cleanest spark pictures of shock waves on a bullet.

I like the 300RUM if your hand loading you can't really beat it. Load it light for shorter range if you want say 1000 and under. or go with the bigger pills if you want to go from 1000 out too 2000. I have tons of different guns and the 300RUM is one of my easy go too guns for anything .

I'm gonna be building a new rifle soon and have narrowed the calibers down to 3, the 7mmRUM, 300RUM and 338 edge which is a 300RUM necked up to .338 giveing a bit more speed than the 338RUM. I thought about using the 338 Lapua case and improving it as the parent for all the cals but the cost of the brass and the rem 700 only being marginal for that case head has made me look at the RUM cases more

I plan to use a 30" Krieger barrel heavy conture on a blueprinted Rem 700 action. This gun will be used for shootng to 1000yds out to one mile or so, for the bullets I'll more than likely use the 180gr Berger for the 7mm, the 210Breger for the 300RUM and the 300gr Sierra Match King for the 338Edge.

I was just wanting a little bit of an oppinion of what everybody else would build, I will likely sell this gun after i get a chance to play with it, this has made me lean toward the 300RUM and the 7mmRUM as factory ammo can be bought for both of them.

Any of you guys shoot any of these calibers? I'd like to hear your imput.
I would go with 338 edge. get a barrel from the 338 edge man shawn and don't look back! 1mile with this rig is a piece of cake. we use 300gr bergers and get to 2500yds great if wind not to bad!
