Reamer came today!

You must be planning on shooting some long bullets for a freebore that long. 40x guy did one last year with a .100 freebore mostly 80 gr bullets.

Is this rifle a replacement for the 22-284 you built a couple of years ago? I considered that one as well. Did it not work out for you?

Thanks
George

It was spec'ed by Kiff for the 80 grain A-Max. The .22-.284 is still purring and accounted for a one shot kill at 900 yards. It pushes the above to 3750 fps MV and is my pick when extended ranges are involved. At camp I have places that extend to 1400 yards. The Dasher will be chosen when mid-range, 6-800 yards, are the norm to preserve the big ones bore. I personally would be ecstatic if it last 700 rounds! I'm no stranger to making tomatoe stakes however that's not my goal.

Maybe I need to back and look at the 22-284 again. I have a reamer for a Weatherby Rocket and dies. Maybe l should at that one again too. Really hard for me to get those long range shots up in NE Pa where I spend a lot of summers. Too many hills.

Would like to get more info from you on the 22-284 though, powders dies and such. Still an interesting subject.

Have you ever done anything with a 22 Cheetah?

George

A bunch of Reloader 33, I had a FL die reamer made and Bob Green made the die for me, after fire-forming I use a Redding bushing die, 6.5x.284, with appropriate bushing. If you don't want to build a FL die talk to Bob, he has an alternative.

I kinda think my 22 Dasher reamer, for the 75 Amax, is at .090.......

But I`d have to check to make sure....

Phil.

Do not return the reamer as it will be perfect for 75/80 grain bullets in an 8 twist. I have two reamers. One at .100" and one at .125". My .100" is absolutely perfect for 75/80 grain pills in the lands about .020" and still have plenty of room to chase the lands.

75gr Amax@ 3135fps will get you beyond 1k.

Yeah that's probably incorrect. Mine, from ptg, only wears .050". If it's truly . 1018" I would consider sending it back unless you're shooting 90s.

I'm on the 6th firing on 50 cases. cci450/ 25.25gr xbr8208/.175"fb

The picture was of FEDGMM primer.

Adam,

Didn't you say you use a .175 freebore?

And I don't think .1018 would be ideal for 90's.

The 223 also has a neck length shorter than the the dasher. Boom...

Plus the 1°30" lead is about equal to .010"fb making the .1018" closer to .112".

Hmm ok. Anyways how long is the neck on a 22 dasher?
About. .250 on lapua, longer (much longer) on Norma. 223 is around .203" on the match reamer. My measurement (.175") is with the lead included. So the fb length is roughly the difference of the neck lengths.

Plus, with the .175" fb the boat tail/ body junction is forward of the neck shoulder junction in the case, not ideal, but for the speeds I'm running it's needed.

Can I ask, Why do you prefer a shorter freebore with the longer neck?

The idea behind freebore(thank-you Roy Weatherby) is to increase case capacity, the longer neck is just a form of freebore, so it requires less. The boat tail/ body junction should sit around the neck shoulder junction of the case.

I see where you're coming from. The difference between .05 and .175 through me off I guess.
