40X 22lr bolt

My 40X 22 bolt will not close, anybody can help? nilebartram
I would have to guess it is something with the bolt, that is the simplest thing.

More information might help, such as did you just buy it and found it has never closed, or have you had it, then suddenly found this issue?
Cleaning it internally would be a good thing, if you can do it.

Wild guess - It happened to mine once - the spring in the spring-loaded thingy that presses against the non-rotating part of the bolt from the left receiver rail had come loose and had worked itself between the bolt face and the barrel. I removed the spring and turned it end for end and put it back - end of problem for another 20 years.

I had a piece of metal by the breech keep it from closing. It was a tab from the receiver fill piece spring. But it would be nice to clean the inside of the bolt. Is the break down similar to the 700 bolt? Please advise, nilebartram

I took the bolt apart and cleaned , lubed and re-assembled. Installed my Jewell 1.5 OZ trigger and the bolt will not reset. Trigger is too light! Thanks for the input, I always learn a lot. You guys are a great bunch of people, thanks , nilebartram

The trigger worked in another Remington, yes? Either way, maybe go back through the instructions and re-set the engagement and weight as specified. Is there sideways play of the trigger body in the slot on the action? If so, maybe shim it.
It looks like the striker angle is the same on the rimfire as on the centerfire, and if anything the spring seems softer on the rimfire, so I can't find anything rimfire-specific that would impact trigger operation. Maybe someone else will know if I've overlooked something. My rimfire has a Canjar, but some centerfires here have Jewells.
I'm glad you found the same solution to bolt closing that I did!

I sold my Canjar trigger once I received the Jewell. I put a Rifle basic BR trigger in the 40X and it works, no problem. I put the Jewell in another 700 in 22BR. Live and learn. nilebartram

I flip the filler spring around and it works, it stays in place now, thanks for the suggestion, nilebartram
