Question about bedding.

I have ordered a Boyd's stock for my Marlington X7. I plan on pillar bedding and glass bedding it. My question is; when glass bedding a blind magazine or ADL type stock, do you do it with the magazine box still attached, and bed the box, or do you remove the box and fill the space with modeling clay?

yeah, dont do the box, just the action!!!

I fill with pieces of Styrofoam packaging. If you cut it a tad oversize, you can squish it in place & trim anything that sticks up into the action space with a box knife. You can fill the well in the action the same way.

After the glass is set up. you can easily trim the stock edges with a Dremel or similar without damage to the stock, just wafting it up to the wood.

Modelling clay is the last desperate measure for me when I can't use foam. Incidentally, individual foam balls can be squished into screw holes & gas ports.

Let it squish it there. It would be that much, dont go crazy with the mud. Machine or grind out the excess after you pop it apart. Rubbing alcohol is an excellent solvent for wet epoxy by the way.

White vinegar works well also but be sure to clean and lube the metal after using it. Will give alcohol a try on the next bedding job. The vinegar was recommended by a boat builder I know after he saw me using acetone.

Thanks for the tip!
