28 Nosler info, ladder and pressure test

I finally got time to start a little load work on my personal 28. Now that season opens tomorrow :) Its built on a trued 700, 26" 8.5 twist, rem mag contour, rock creek, Mcmillan hunter edge fill stock. Rifle weights 8.5lbs with scope.
This ladder was shot at 300 yards off a bi-pod in some decent wind, rl 33, 195 hybrids. I moved the group a minute to the right after shot 1. Shot 1 was 83.5, shot 13 was 89.5, every shot went up .5 grains. Shots 3-6 measured .535" of vertical over a 2 grain spread. This is the node I usually recommend guys start at, about 3050 fps. Shot 11-13 showed about an inch of vertical. Shot 13 running 3208 fps. That one started showing a little ejector mark but still had easy bolt lift. I will shoot the 3050 node, as for me its plenty. The more of these I get feedback on the more I like them. They really are like the 6br of big magnums...DSC_0116.JPG

Gee that's impressive Alex, running some numbers on that 3200fps load, 3000fpe at 500y and 2000fpe at 1000ym still 1000fps at a mile

I've been thinking about building one as a medium range hunting outfit but have a few other projects on the go at the moment

Not if you like them close to the lands. It is really set up for the 195 hybrid only. I think if you wanted to shoot 168 or 180s you might as well stay with the 7 mag, I think this case would start getting pretty inefficient. You can touch the lands with a 180 vld but, your half up the neck. This free bore puts a 195 at an oal of 3.775 and they like a .015 jump, so 3.760 in a 3.825 wyatts box.

I'm pushing the 168s 3450 and less than 1/2 moa at 500 meters. I chose the 28 Nosler because of the standard long action, no belted case (ugh!) and am no fan of the 7mm RM. For long range hunting, it's my go to rifle.

The VLDs are hand grenades, in 2 to 3 inches and kaboom. DRTs are the norm with pretty much anything except rhinos, hippos and elephants. :D

I trim the Meplats on the Bergers to help disruption / fragmentation. I've had some pencil through without opening and the trimming fixes this. Very explosive.

Alex, I think that I speak for many when it comes to wanting to see your finished load development for this rifle!

Thanks

Went out today with 85.5. 1/2" vertical at 300, 3" round at 600 and 3 for 3 on the 10" plate at 1k. Thats all I am going to worry about now as its hunting season. I'll take it to deep creek and tune it at 1k later. We have terrible wind where I live.

Please take pics of the wound channel and entrance/exit if possible. Curious to how they perform.

That sounds like a very high velocity.for that weight .284 bullet. I have seen 30 magnums that won't do that with a 200 gr bullet in a 26" barrel. Pressure mmust.really be up there.

Rl33 is amazing stuff. I was skeptical until I seen it with my own eyes. Pressure is no higher than anything else. You can only run it so hot before you see pressure signs.
