Scott Parker does it again

After a little more time than I wanted to wait I finally received my SP tuned Lyman M5 back from Scott. Got to play with it early this morning after a lengthy conversation with Scott last evening. Scott was very willing to explain the operation of the scale and the best way to get consitant weight measures. He answered all my silly questions very patiently and after using his advice I loadaed up 50 rounds of .17 Fireball using 18.5g of H322. Using Scott's advice to throw .5g light and approaching desired weight from there with a trickler, I found the scale to be so sensitve that two granuals of this powder would register a change on the beam. In fact I now have to be careful not to exhale towards the pan or it will regiser a movement. In spite of this sensitivity the damping works perfectly. When I throw the desired weight on another scale (RCBS 505) and then transfer to the Lyman I get one up--one down and then the beam settles in the center. Amazing! The Lyman even tamed my Charge-Master. When back checking a charge weight on the Charge-Master every charge checked showed exactly 18.5g. As many of you know the Charge-Master can be off almost a 1/10 and still show the same weight. This Lyman M5 can find that error which I find most comforting since I play with various sub-calibers where a half a tenth can get you in trouble.
All in all I am very pleased with the operation of this scale and appreciate Scott's advice on the proper method to use it. THANKS SCOTT! dedogs :)

Just recently Scott tuned my RCBS 10-10 scale and it works very well. A single grain of Varget will tip the beam. The first time I loaded with it I managed to take 3rd in Heavy Gun group size at the IBS 600 yard Nationals. I truly believe that the tuned scale contributed to lowering my group size.

Anyone care to share some contact info for Scott Parker? I have a 10-10 I'd like to see if he would work his magic on.

His info is below in the related threads. Should have looked there before asking but I always forget about that feature on this site.

He didn't mention having to do that. dedogs

So does your M5 still have the original magnets?

May I ask how many swings it takes to settle on zero, if you hold the beam at the bottom (against the frame, assuming no added bumper stop), then release it?

After a m5 scott did was given to me i will never go back to a digital scale . I use a dandy trickler and a prism. My scores went up and reloading time went wayy down

Interesting. I sent a 10-10 to Scott in May. Can't get a phone call or email answered. Honestly forgot about it till I saw this. Congrats

As I said in my original post--with 18.5g of H322 I get one up, one down and then the beam settles on the white line. This is with the beam resting at the bottom of it's travel on the main frame and pouring the powder into the pan somewhat slowly (i.e. NOT DUMPED). A heavier charge may require a few more swings-- I don't know yet asI haven't tried. I suspect that if the powder is always poured slowly there won't be any wild movements of the beam.
As far as I know the magnets are original--Scott did not mention having to replace them. dedogs

I have talked to Scott many times. He has a job that calls for a lot of travel, does this as a Hobby and recently was blessed with a 5th child. I sent my check in July and just recently received my scale (which is wonderful) and I think if dedogs checks his dates, he was over two months rather than one also. It took a lot of calls, texts and e-mails, but the old squeaky wheel did the trick. The results where worth the wait, though I wished I had known how long in advance of the order. Also in fairness to Scott, he did not even cash my check until the scale was finally on its way to me so I would for sure deal with him again.

After checking back through my conversations with Scott I find that Bob is correct-- it actually took about 2 months. I have been working 6 & 7 days a week for the last six months and the weeks just seem to run together. Still, I feel that it was worth the wait although I was starting to get pretty antsy about getting my scale back. I have a couple of important (to me) matches coming up.
John you better bring your "A" game for the next match!:D

Scott did a rcbs 5-10 for me and it works very well. I waited a bit and would wait again.
