What is latest thinking in USA re Twist Rate for Berger 105 Hybrid

What is the trend, or recommendation from Stateside on the best twist for 6mm Dasher, running Berger 105 Hybrid and/or Berger 108 BT.

Barrel will be from Bartlein

Thanks in advance

No 108 experience here, only 105 Hybrids. I think most folks will opt for a 7.5" or 7.75" twist. I bought a few 8" twists a couple years back and have a supply of them to use. Every 8" twist I have used has shot well for me with the hybrids at elevations from 500' and higher, temps from 40-95F with velocities from the muzzle between 2940-3050.

I have a 1:7.8 Bartlein chambered in 6XC that was intended for 115DTAC's but likes Berger's 105VLD @ Hybrids better. Never tried the 108.

Later I went with a 1:7.5 (Brux) which shoots both 105's just fine. Have 7.5's in spaceguns chambered in 6HAGAR that also work great @ 200 fps less velocity.

Rob,

All of my Dasher barrels have been 1 in 8 twist except one, which is 1 in 7.5 twist. I tried the 7.5 twist last season specifically to see what the difference may be with the 105 Hybrids. I did not see any difference or improvement on paper at 1000 yards over my 8 twist barrels. The 108's work in 1 in 8 twist as well.

Doesn't make a difference whose barrel you'll use. Most shoot good/very good. Every once in a while, a great one comes along!

I shoot 105 hybrids from a 8 twist Krieger in a straight 6br, no accuracy issues from me. Also use straight 8 twist with same bullet in a 243 with no issues.

I am going to stick with 8's, but am sure 7.75 or 7.5 would work fine too.

I'm shooting 8.5's and they've shot so well I haven't had a reason to buy anything else.

Hey rob
Yeah mate I run a 1:8 twist on my 6BR with both hybrids and 108gr for the 500m fly shoots. But I'm building a 6BRX atm but I have ordered a 1:7.5 for my new barrel just to make sure as berger now recommend that for hybrids.
Havent seen much difference in accuracy in 108 and 105 hybrids in the 6BR ... cant wait for dave kerr to finish my 6BRX

I'm happy with my 1:8 Shilen for 600 yard matches with 105 VLDs or 105 Hybrids, but I suppose if I bought a new barrel it would be 1:7.5.

Go to the Berger Bullets Twist Rate Calculator to get some information. The calculator will allow you to input information such as muzzle velocity, temperature, altitude and twist rate for a specific berger bullet to check the stability of the bullet and will recommend a minimum twist rate. As an example, a twist rate that may be very stable in Denver may have marginal stability at sea level. When the 105 Hybrids first came out Berger said the Optimal Twist Rate was 1:8" and now they say the Optimal Twist Rate is 1:7". I think the twist rate they recommend is to cover all the different variables involved. I have both 1:7.5" and 1:8" and both seem to work fine but next time I order a new barrel for my 6BR I will probably order a 1:7 since all I shoot in it is the 105 Hybrid and that is what Berger recommends.

I successfully shoot my 6br in f-open midrange--600 yard. 8" twist 5R .236 bore Krieger. no problems with stability, at 600, but next time around, I will go with a faster twist

1:8tw Kreiger 4gr 30" Med Palma .237 bore;29gr N140, Norma 6BR case, 105hybrids, Fed 205M

What Morgen Dietrich used this past weekend to shoot a perfect 1,600.120x score at Wisconsin's 2016 Midrange Championship.

I have been 7.5 twist with hybrid bullets from the first time they were available. They definitely shoot better at longer range with faster twist. Larry

Nowhere on this forum specifically, I was quoting from a post he'd put up on the NM forum at USRIFLETEAMS.COM.
