Berger 105 hunting vlds

I have a chance to pick up a few boxes of these to try in a new 6mm br or 6mm dasher (haven't decided on caliber) build that will be done this summer. The rifle will be used for 600/1000 yard BR. I am curious how people have found these stack up vs other Berger offerings (target vld, hybrid, 108 BT, etc). I plan to start with either a Brux or Krieger barrel.

Thanks in advance,
JP

They shoot quite well. They also have a better BC than any of the target offerings short of the 105 Hybrid.

Like any VLD, they are a little touchy about seating depth. In the Dasher, they are more than adequate for what I do (mid-range F-class). If I could get my wind reading skill together, the rifle and bullet combination I have right now is fully capable of setting national records.

Don't let the "thin" jacket worry you. At Dasher speeds, I can't hurt them.

The Hunting VLD's are the original Berger VLD designed bullet, and are Hunting/Target bullets.
The Target VLD's are a more resent bullet with the same design but with a thicker jacket.
Basically they are the same bullet, one just having a thicker jacket and is why it is not recommended for hunting.
To note: the Hunting VLD's have a slightly smaller meplate, there for hold a little higher BC value as well.

I load all three variants in the 105 gr family exactly the same. I can interchange them and still shoot 1/4 moa and better at 100 yards. I don't shoot groups any further than 100 yards, but I ring steel from 500 out to 1400 yards without any issues. Scott

I have noticed very little difference in accuracy using the target or hunting VLD's. In some cases the Hunting VLD actually shoots a little better. Just have to try them and see.

Like mentioned earlier, the thin jacket on the hunting VLD will not be an issue at 6 Dasher or 6 BR speeds. The target VLD was only designed to accomodate shooters using a round with high case capacity that can push them much faster

I've watched Mr Jim Suber of Mississippi shoot many a clean target at 600 yds in competition over at Palo Alto using the 105 Berger Hunting bullets.

i have/am using the berger 105gr hunting vlds and the hybrids.. and have found there isnt much between them, both in my 6BR seem to like it about .010 off the lands in my gun , at 500m the best i was getting were 2 inch groups on a good day with the hunting vlds and so far the hybrids are getting a 1.8 inch at 500m, using 30.6gr or 2208(varget) at 2940fps with CCI BR4 primers, krieger 30inch barrel no turn neck .272

haven't used any of there other bullets
