factory benchrest rifle recomendations

Hi all, I shot the barrel out of my 6mm Rem, and want to replace with a new factory rifle. I'm trying to stay in $1000.00 price range if possible. I shoot benchrest 1-3 hundred yards.

6ppc Sako. Or Ruger used to make their VT in 22ppc and 6ppc which shoot quite well too. The 6br Savage would be a fair choice too, staying under a grand might be a challenge though.

A lot would depend upon what discipline you shoot and how they define a factory rifle. Some do not allow flat forearms, no trigger replacements, etc etc. WD

Savage. Target action, easy barrel swap and accurate. Just the gun for a budget shooter. I have some customs and I'm thinking about getting one. Wishing I had gotten one instead of some other guns I bought. Good luck.

A used Remington 40 XB series. Using one will be like cheating. It may also be capable of being respectfully competitive at registered BR shoots if factory class leaves you wanting. Check out Shooters Corner webpage.

It depends on the exact rules of "Factory Class" where you plan to shoot. Since there is no "official" factory class in many disciplines
(e.g. IBS ) individual clubs have their own rules.

When I shot at Pella, Iowa, their factory class did not allow Rem. 40X's! But they did allow flat bottom stocks, so I got a Savage in
6.5x284 and used it for factory class. They also had a 15# weight limit.

Now, I shoot at Vapor Trail Valley and they do allow a Rem. 40X in factory class. They have no weight limit and allow flat bottomed stocks.
I use a Savage Benchrest model in 6 BR that works there for Factory class.

If your club allows flat bottom stocks, the Savage is a great choice. If they don't, I'd consider a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor or
.243 Winchester. Those can be bought for $1,000 if you look around.

PS. I think there was a single shot in .338 Lapua on the sale board a little while ago. Might still be there. Great 300 yd. gun! Shoots thru concrete walls, too!! Might not have been the target action, tho.

Thanks for all the replies. I have started to reseach the 6 BR Norma , and it fits my needs. Will be shopping for a Savage now. I will check out "shooters corner".

Wouldn't recommend a factory gun, probably not even semi factory.. Go pick up a used custom gun with a good action..

Didn't sch why you don't rebarrel your current rifle.

It was a anniversary gift from my wife 43 years ago. Don't wish to alter for sentimental reasons. Also hornady brass is all that's available anymore,and its just to soft. I have had a few cases split with moderate loads. Just time to move on. I have a RPR 6.5 cm that shoots sub moa and is great for long distance, but doesn't shoot as tight of groups at 100 to 200 yards the 6mm rem used to. I also like the fact that the 6BR only uses 22 -23 grains of powder. H4350 for my creedmoor is becoming harder to find, the demand is very high.
