6BR or 6PPC for 300yard shooting

I am shooting my 6PPC at some 300 yd matches and using LT32 with 66grn bullets , seem to be coming 3rd or 2nd most times , Have a 30BR and just wondering about putting a 6BR barrel on it and trying that for the 300 yd , I am the only one using a 6PPC , rest of the guys use various 6MM or 6.5 and a couple of 308 . Would there be any advantage with the 6 BR and if so what twist and bullet weight would you use , any opinions would be great , shooting off the bench with my bench rest equipment with flags,

I've had really good luck with my 6BR shooting 87 gr Berger hunting VLDs over 32.0 grains of Varget and CCI 450 primers. This load will make you look good at 300. I've also had good luck with my 6PPC though at 300 yards as long as the wind was calm. I shot a .256" 300 yard 5 shot group with 29.2 gr. V-133 and Bart's 68 Ultra's at one of our shoots up here at Washington's Kenmore range.. It all depends on how much wind your dealing with

borderghost,
6BR, 8 twist barrel, Any bullet from 80 gr. to 108 gr. You are good to 1000yds. I have seem a 30 BR shoot a 1.00" group at 600 yds Benchrest, with 110 gr Berger, may try it. The higher BC bullets will be a advanage at 300yds + yardage.

I shoot a pair of 6 BRX's and a 6PPC in a lot of matches from 100 to 1000 yds. each year. I shoot the PPC to 500. There is no question, at 300 yds. my choice is the PPC unless the wind is very gusty. I have noticed a difference in the PPC from 300 - 500 if your shooting light or towards the hot side, BUT I still reach for the PPC at 300 yds.

Some year's ago, Mr. Gary Ocock shot a 0.149 inch 5-shot group at 300 yards with a 6PPC. The group was not only small but it was centered in the "mothball". This group is pictured in Mike Ratigan's book. I believe the 6 PPC has an accuracy advantage at 300 yards, but the 6BR with a fast twist and 105 VLD's has an advantage by its great ballistic coefficient. If you are shooting in very windy conditions, go with the 6 BR, if not, the PPC is great. Good shooting, James

I shoot a 6ppc and 6br in our groundhog shoots 100,200,300 yards the 6br is competitive but the 6 ppc usually does better, for shooting out to 300 yards I like the 6ppc.

My question is are you shooting for Group or Score? The local club I shoot is mainly 30BR and 6BR, and only 1 6PPC. I don’t remember who to give credit to on here but they did some great work on number crunching and a 30BR has a 21% better chance of hitting the x over the 6s. That alone is enough for me to build a 30BR. Not to mention 6-7 times barrel life.
