The new hog exploder.....

ab_bentley

I fix stuff, sometimes....
Been working on a ridiculous hog rifle. A 22 Dasher, built specifically for the 53gr Vmax. Got 50 cases formed and this morning got to firing some velocity loads. This was with XBR8208, FEDGMM primer, old 6br cases, and 53s @ the lands. 20160723_094417_resized.jpg
I'm going to guess that groundhogs are about lose their minds, and guts, spines, ect.

The group was well under 3/8".

X-caliber 23" 1-8t 3g (rechambered 3 times)
Degregorio 1.5oz trigger
Old 40x stock
R700 single shot
8.5-25x50LR scope

I see you made it out after the phone call.....lol.....

Try MR 2000 with the 75 Amax just for fun.....

Phil.

I'm sure they will do well for you. I shot several groundhogs recently with the 53gr. V-Max in my 221FB with very good results, but they are going about 1000fps slower that what you are getting.

The 53gr. V-Max is one heck of a good bullet for sure. Please post your results on the chucks.

Can't wait for more on this one. I have one 22 PPC but it would not shoot them due to the 14 twist.
This may put me over the brink. I may have to twist up a 12 twist 22 Dasher.
I had a 22 Dasher once and it rocked the 40 v-max at 4200 fps. It was a 8 twist for long heavy bullets
but it would shoot the light bullets even jumping a heck of a ways to hit the lands.

Keep the info coming of this.
Thanks

That Sir, Is One Fine Looking Rifle...Well Done, and "comfy" to shoot too...That is just so very nice...Mike
I am going to re-finish the stock once winter hits. It's basically bare wood, which isn't a problem, but I'll sand and finish with superglue like the last one I did. I'll also chop the LOP back and add a 1" pad. For the $35 I paid for these older stocks, they make great handles.

What is this superglue finish you talked about?

Adam, I only had to do a very light sanding on mine.1960's vintage wood..It must be free of that newer plastic Rem Finish first.....Actually mostly buffed with New Scotch Brite pad..Then, Cleaned it w denatured alcohol..Use the lightest brown min wax stain I had on hand..next day ..Rubbed it out really good w old T shirt..surface must be dry before proceeding to next coat/step..Then rubbed in a 50 50 mix of Formbies tung oil gloss & Tru-oil.couple of coats..[24 hour dry time] polishing out each time you re-coat...much Easier, smoother finish...I Only use Butcher's wax on it now...Try that mixture on any old piece of very smooth walnut, once it is clean & fully dry....I think you will approve..Mike

I love those old 40X stocks. I have one with the short "serrated" front metal groove. How did you mount that bipod?

If you look, there's a partial rail. I made a T lock for the stud. Break the stud free and you can move the bipod fore and aft.
