Barrel Cool Review

What??????????? Mine came with the batteries installed.

Alex

Mine did too as I discovered last weekend when trying it out. Guess they didn't bother to remove them. The device definitely works though, I left it going for 5 minutes after I put 30 rounds down range and it was definitely cooling down quicker than usual.

No Lithium batteries can be shipped by air.

We just recently (last couple weeks) discovered that you can ship via AIR internationally as long as certain requirements are met...

* Cannot exceed a certain lithium content or battery quantity. Based on the battery we are using, we can only ship a total of (3) lithium batteries per shipment. So, if one were to order 2 units internationally, we would only be able to ship (1) unit with batteries and (1) without batteries.
* Batteries must be installed in the unit and certain requirements need to be met to prevent it from turning on or short circuiting.

That being said, if someone internationally wants batteries installed in multiple units, they can certainly ask for it and I can quote this such that each unit is shipped in its own separate packaging and paid as such, which in reality, would cost an arm and a leg.

Domestically, the regulations are more lax.

dissenting opinion here. I have used mine a couple times and haven't seen much improvement in barrel cool down times. The last time I was out I brought a IR temperature gun to measure as I thought maybe it was working better than I thought but just wasn't "feeling" it. I alternated using it / not using it over 60 rounds (10 shots per string). After 5 minutes there was about a 1 degree difference as measured about an 1" forward of the throat. After 10 minutes there was about 2.5 degree difference.

My test was fairly simple but I will say I was disappointed. An important point to note is that I shoot a left port gun, so the intake fan points down. Does this affect the results? maybe. Given how many are happy with theirs, perhaps that is my issue.

Understanding that it would take some re-engineering and might not be feasible within the current form factor, but if the fan could be moved so it points out (instead of up or down in the action), maybe that would be better.

As soon as I saw the unit in person I could see that the left port action was going to lay the intake facing the bottom of the action-- which does effect the performance.
My solution was a section of vinyl tubing attached to the existing tubing-- the new vinyl tube fits snugly in the cylinder and provides a good seal so no air loss.
I did load testing one day recently in 90+ degree temps and used the barrel cool between strings--- the unit worked great--- barrel heat never approached temps that it did on a previous testing session earlier in the week.

I don't get it! How does the fan being upside down affect it's performance?

Well this looks like something thatd be nice... i gotta shoot at night this time of year just to have temps below 100... haha i start out with a 105-110 degree barrel!!

Left Port users of BarrelCool can try adding bumpers as shown below. This will give enough gap to allow for no obstruction of the intake. Adding these bumpers however will not allow this to fit in an AR platform. This will work in both left and right port actions.
