Shell Holder for Norma Brass

Multiple contacts later, Bullets.com expects a shipment in August 21st.

Contacted Redding. They will make some but when they do, will only sell them to Bullets.com. There are NONE available now.

I ordered two from bullets.com and do not expect delivery until late August. The price is rather high, at about $14 each and add near $10 for shipping.

Tried to use a 30-30 shell holder. Tried to use a magnum one also. In both cases the diameter is way too large to reliably hold the case and it slips out, gumming up the works and tearing up the rim.

Will not editorialize on the issue now. Just disappointed that my new build will sit idle unless I get Lapua brass to firearm or use some I have from another rifle I use. You can read this as I am not happy about this. No clue why Norma would do such a thing but they did.

First - thank you starting a new thread on this and thank you for your business.

The date you were given was a default date in the system. The special shell holders for the Dasher were completed yesterday by Redding and have gone for heat treating. We expect some by expedited shipping within the next 10 days or so.

We modified some #1 shell holders ourselves on our CNC, but wore out two very expensive cutters after only about 15 pieces since these are hardened. We knew that going in, but wanted to get some out to customers, which we did yesterday. The shell holder problem will be a non issue once we get our shipment in. We have several hundred on order from Redding. Instead of a number, they will have a "D" on them.

Then your are right. The "system" is flawed.

I talked with two at your place on two calls this morning. Each time they checked it was August 21st expected.

Talked with a "Scott" at Redding after getting no help or information from the original person who answered the phone. Was firmly told no shell holders had been made but the order was in. They expected to have them ready in 6 - 8 weeks. NO mention of anything already made and no mention of some sent to you in the next week or so.

Might be reasonable to check out what I was told to see if that is correct?

I did order two from you. Credit card accepted. Told to expect that to be filled late August. Hope it was wrong and thanks for the update.

Just relax and wait for the shell holders per my message above. Here's a picture of what they ran yesterday.

If there is a problem with the brass fitting a shellholder, seems to me there might be issues with extractors working 100%.

Heard that with some rifles. I tried on both of my Stolle actions in Dasher. Both worked fine. The brass looks good. It has correct headspace to start out. Primer pockets and flash holes seem fine. Length can be cut back to individual needs. Neck thickness is nominally .0125 - .013". Runout is very good.

I like the brass. Just cannot do anything with it because of the rim thickness. Now I read that those from Bullets and Redding did not give me correct answers on the phone this morning. I have a back-order in for the holder. Plan on calmly waiting for something that will work. Shiraz (spelled correctly) has been up front about the whole issue. Hopefully it will soon end.

Chamber one of the cases ( I had to cut one back to do that ) and see if your extractor works.

Not a Redding or RCBS #3 a Lee #3 fits snug, at least as good a 1 and 2 RCBS or Redding on my 308 size cases. #3 Lee for the priming tool also. Cheers.

I tried the lee #3 holder for the priming tool it" a little sloppy and it wont line up the primer pocket of the case straight with the holder. It works if you hold it tight with your hand while you push the primer in. But you will find that some of the cases will pop out . I just bought a new rcbs #2 holder to use in my press, because I kinda ruined my old one trying to get it to work and to my amazement it works great. I guess my 20 year old holder had tighter tolerances, the new one works great. Hopefully Shiraz's holder gets out soon.

What is everyone doing for priming tool shell holders? I have a Sinclair priming tool and my experience is similar to 6xcshooter's, while the Lee #1 would be the correct diameter it's not tall enough to accommodate the thick case rim of the Norma brass. The Lee #3 shell holder has the necessary height for the rim thickness but the diameter is too large so the case is a little sloppy so you need to be careful getting the case centered before inserting the primer.

I see Sinclair is now making their own shell holders for their priming tools (years ago when I bought it you had to use the Lee holders); I have a Sinclair #1 holder on order but I'm not sure it will have enough height to accommodate the thick case rim. I'll report back once I have it but maybe someone else here already has one...

I got a brand new rcbs #2 holder and with a Drexel drill cut off wheel and cut the bottom portion off . The thickness is the same compared to the lee holders. That's how I made a shell holder for my Lee priming tool.
Grind center hole out with a dremel grinding stone .I used the pink one that is for sharpening a chainsaw chain.

Well I thought by Bullets sending me an e-mail saying my order was confirmed, I would get them(see post #5) Wrong! Received another e-mail (that I did not see for 2 days) that I had 24hrs to confirm my ADD. for UPS (no PO Box) Nothing on the website did it say I needed to give a physical ADD. (for UPS)! Called and they told me my order was fine Except for the shell holders! Sold to another.. the rest of the order is ready to ship. Not my first order with Bullets..may be my Last! Thanks' Shiraz

HORNADY #2.

I ordered everything appropriate I could find off Ebay. One was a new-in-package Hornady #2. Perfect. None of the others of all brands worked.

I have a K&M shell adapt
Sorry about that.......I have a K&M power adaptor and after trying a few shell holders, I found the Lee #3 hand priming tool shell holder (#90203 works. Just need to make sure you tighten it down so it don't slip. Turned 12 cases to .012 with no problems

Try Lee #9. Fits great

FYI. Just tried the new Norma Dasher brass in the 6mm BR shell holder for 21st Century turning lathe. Fits perfectly.
Make sure to check all your brass. I have 405 cases that work fine in the Redding shell holder and 95 cases that don't.

+ 1

As reported earlier;
I have 418 that are fine with the Redding shell holder (for 6 BR) and the other 82 wouldn't fit!
