My new AMP Annealer

My new AMP (Annealing Made Prefect) annealer arrived yesterday. I was impressed with it before I opened the box. The packaging was first rate. Solid and strong. The unit comes with 3 pilots of your choice depending on the cases you are going to anneal. You can order extra ones for more cases if required.

The setup and use was easy. Just follow the instruction carefully. http://www.ampannealing.com/

Choose the correct pilot to screw in the machine, put your corresponding shell holder in the brass case grip. Place a case in the shell holder and slip it in the screwed in pilot. Look your case up in the “Settings” chart being careful to note the brass brand and the neck thickness you are using. Using the + & _ buttons, set the required. Once you double check your settings you are ready to go.

Just press the start button. In about 4 seconds for my 7/270 WSM the Red light turned off and I pulled out my newly annealed case. In 9 minutes and 15 seconds I had finished 50 cases (about 11 seconds per case). As I get used to the routine I expect this time to go down.

Now the amazing thing about this is did this in my office/loading room in my house. No gas bottle, no flames, no long setup of the gas nozzles to get them just right. In my case I had to move one of my vehicles out of the garage and set up a table and re-rig the gas annealer. Not any more, just turn it on and anneal 50 or so cases when I get tired of weighing powder charges! I love it!Annealed 270 WSM case.JPG AMP Annealer .JPG

I just watched the video on the web site very impressive and probably the best induction annealer I have seen or any other annealer for that matter , some real thought has been put into it. I built my own gas machine which is now redundant after seeing this video.

Looks good, but seems like an awful lot of work to anneal cases. Setting up the machine with a program, manually stick a case on a shell holder and insert, push a start button and wait, remove and start over? You'll have an hour in annealing 25 cases, lol. I'll stick with a bench source.

I'm waiting for mine to ship now. I did send in 6 fired/neck turned cases that the AMP techs will develop a custom profile for.
This service is free, so I thought I would take advantage of it. Never was a fan of open flames in my garage using other
annealers, although they did get the job done to the level of accuracy that can be expected with using the tempilaq fluids.

Looking forward to using the AMP unit.

Really!! I bet I can set my Annie Faster cartridge to cartridge faster than you can! And its not AMP!
P.S. Dont you have to set all your cases on the wheel sitting waiting for it to rotate?

Just ordered one from NZ , we have a number of induction sealers at work and induction annealing makes so much sense, particularly as I live in an apartment with no access to a shed or garage.
I built a gas unit that works very well but I had to pack it up and go to the parents place to use it.
Don't care about the labor or time factor , I can set it up in front of the plasma and put on a movie an anneal my backside off !!

Personally I would use their settings as a start point. Then just do a few different tests to see what shoots the best, yields most consistent neck tension, and prolongs brass life. If they say use 45 then test some at 43, 45, and 47. Shouldn't be too difficult to fine tune or verify....

So one has to trust brass is annealed right with no way of seeing it or checking it inside the machine. Very interesting concept

I understand what your saying forsure! But, what 22Dasher said is my train of thought,it would be the way to go! And thats the reason ive havent drop the money on the AMP because its so easy to adjust the annealing process on the Annie .

Chuck,
I have a Bench Source. If you re-read my post you will see I annealed 50 cases in 9 minutes 15 seconds. If you stop or even turn off the machine it remembers the program and to start again just turn it on and press the start button. To change to another cartridge you only have to screw out the pilot, change the shell holder if necessary and press the +/- buttons to get a new program number.

I just ran a test, it took me 44 seconds to change from a 7/270 WSM to a 7 Shehane and that included putting a case in the shell holder. Then I changed back to the WSM and when I turned it back on it had remembered the program for the WSM since I had not annealed any Shehane cases. If I had I would have had to press the buttons to reset it. Set up time is nil!! BTW I have no connection with AMP.

If the Guys that invented this machine have invested the time and money to analyse different makes of brass and have determined that each variety (and characteristic thereof ) requires a different 'dwell time' that suggests some serious metallurgy has been performed. Unless one has the knowledge and equipment to analyse the various properties of 'donor' brass then our collective comments are moribund. It seems to me that the AMP machine has taken the guess work out of annealing and lets be honest, all non induction methods of annealing contain a degree of guess work. A quick look at the Settings page on the AMP web site determines that Lapua standard .308 brass has a setting of 92, if however the necks have been turned 0.003" then a setting of 86 is required. There are 13 different brands of brass each with their own setting, REM has a setting of 64 ( I wonder what this says about REM brass)So if you can enter a program and select the setting for your brass brand and neck characteristics and not have to dick around with tempilaq or set up open flames, then money well spent I reckon.
If we become suspicious of ALL claims made about ANYTHING then I suspect our wallets would never be empty.
I guess I am a glass half full kind of bloke.

And I am not affiliated with AMP either except to say we share a common bond in that we support the Mighty Maroons ! AKA CaneToads !!
