Long gun soft case that is airline friendly

For those of you flying to matches such as the BSWN, USA FCNC, DCRA FCNC, SOA, Sinclair East Coast Fullbore, etc....

Me, personally, I find lugging my gun back and forth from the hotel to the range in a hard case to be a PITA - my gun has to be partially disassembled (remove the buttplate) to fit in my full sized hard case. Packing a normal padded soft case takes up a lot of valuable space and weight in my checked luggage. Sometimes a person can arrange to borrow a soft case from someone local, or someone who is driving - many times we have to ship some or all of our ammo ahead, so that makes a certain amount of sense... except those folks often run out of soft cases to lend out pretty quickly.

There is another option out there... John Homatas of Prone2Success makes some pretty nice long gun cases... and he also makes, on a limited on-demand basis, some ones that are *un-padded*. They have all the normal features, but they fold up to about the size of denim jeans in your checked luggage, and weigh only a fraction of what the normal padded version does. Its not what I'd recommend for day-to-day banging around @ the local public range, but for those of us who travel via air to some of the bigger matches, it works *great*.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, go to John's website, http://www.prone2success.com/ and let him know. He normally only makes them every so often as the demand isn't high - usually right before a Palma or F-Class World cycle - but I honestly don't think a lot of people even know they are an option at all. I want another one - my last one got lent out @ the 2013 FCWC and never found its way back to me - but he needs a few more orders to make a run.

I was given a very lightly padded guncase from this company when they were a start-up years back. It can fold/roll up and take up little space. Built to last, designed for sporting clays guns. I see the company still exists and is making cases albeit a little different from the one I was given. Check them out here: www.wildhareshootinggear.com/

...designed for sporting clays guns.

How well is a case built around a sporting clays shotgun going to fit a 17-22lb F-class gun with a big NF scope, 3" wide fore-end, etc....? Most shotgun cases I have handled cannot even begin to zip closed around my F/TR rig.

I would say none. My hard case had a gouge in 3" long and1/2 wide at bottom where it had ben hit . With that in mind no soft case for me. Larry

Ummm... I'm not talking about transporting it thru the airlines in a soft case.

I'm talking about not having to juggle a hard case in and out of the rental car between yard lines, the hotel elevator, and the room itself, several times a day. A light-duty soft case that stows compactly for flight, but allows you some degree of protection / discretion when going from the hotel to the range, is what I'm talking about.

Check archery cases . They should work .

Dale Carpenter has a group of gals who sew up soft cases just for this occasion, the put a pocket on the side for mirage shield and ECI. Works great. I will see if he is willing to chime in here.

Try searching tensing gun cases

Honestly guys.... the original post was more of a public service announcement, rather than a "where can I find something kinda like this".

The perfect solution already exists, just thought some other people would benefit from knowing - the ultra-lite travel cases like John or Dale make aren't real well advertised as they typically only sell to a very specific niche.

Thanks for the info!
