Looking for some old 1968/69 Army shooters.
Well, I'm old, was in the Army during those years, and retired after 20 years, and I shoot VFS. Does that fit the bill?

OH yes, that counts big time! Sounds you had a great time too?Ft Campbell KY in 68 where we did 800 with iron sights all day long, then off to the greenland of the south where I honed my skills with one other guy who tagged along. Never so scared in my life but that's probably why I'm still here. Never shot on any formal teams, but taught Basic Marksmanship at Ft Leonard Wood as a DI for a year and a half. Always loved the ones who had never held a 'gun' before. So easy to teach. Hated those guys who had 'hunted all their lives'....so far. Any of that count?
OK, Walt, you found a few. Now watcha gonna do with 'em?Looking for some old 1968/69 Army shooters.

It would please me to have some of the old time shooters share what they learned with the younger shooters before then ship off.
Good old country boys?Walt, the most resounding thing to me was the NM M1 with RA match ammo, amazing to get 17-18 V's at 600 with iron sights and a 250 score.
my first outing with the M1 was in basic at Jackson shooting to qualify, after standing completed I had a tap on the shoulder, a LT indicate the Col wanted to see me, - boy you on the rifle team.

EVERYTHING was M14, but I did get to work with a n NM for awhile. After I started tagging stuff at 600 and 800 with those beat up basic rifes, they gave me a toy to work with that was more capable than I was. My issue was my eyesight. I had perfect vision, but at 800 those flipper targets were getting very very hard to find and in low light shadows impossible. Put a black silhouette against a green background in the shade then move it to 600-800 yards. Yowza that was impossible.OH yes, that counts big time! Sounds you had a great time too?
You may like the movie called Forest Gump!
Thanks for teaching all the young boys how to shoot straight.
Did you get to play with the NM M-14?
I met an eye doctor at Camp Perry that sold me an optical insert that was yellow and adjusted for my eyesight. If you get the clear one there is no way to tell it is in there.
Yellow would have helped you see better between the colors green and black.
Not sure how to find that eye doctor today?
Old shooters need all the help we can get.
