Most explosive Varmint bullet

Just trying to get a consensus on what you guys are using and had good luck with. I'm currently running a 55BT in a 22-250 @ 3750-3850 and these are awesome just trying to find a possible replacement to keep costs down. Kinda hard to go away from this bullet as I've shot several 3-shot groups in the .0"s. Laid into 2000 or so for $9/100. Don't try and sell me on Bergers or Barnes as they are too expensive.

I also picked up a Savage Striker in 22-250 and probably going to run 35-40's outta the 14" barrel to keep MV up around 3500. My other gun is a 22BR that's undergoing surgery for a firing pin bushing which I'll probably be running 55's in as well.

Also don't mind if you give opinions on 6mm stuff as I have one of those as well.

Thanks

Jake

I have been pretty happy with my Nosler Ballistic Tips, I have seen some serious damage.

I shoot them out of my 223, 22-250, and a few 6mm's especially my 243.

Look up Shooter's Pro Shop. They sell Nosler factory blems and over runs. Just looked and seen some .224 55gr BT's for 12.95/100.

Calhoun dbhp bullets are very hard on woodchucks but are not a high velocity bullet. Iirc less than 3500 fps

In the Swift I am pleased with the NBT and Vmax in 50-55gr. And out of the 6xc and 243 I am pleased with the 75gr Vmax's, 70gr NBT, and 70gr Blitzking. JME. WD

Hornady SX is the most explosive 22 bullet I've used but those pills probably won't survive at 22-250 velocity.

When shooting prairie dogs with a 22-250 I found V-Max bullets to be noticably more explosive than Noslers. Never could shoot a "double" with the Hornadys.

Jake -

Howdy !

The 55SX are like grenades.

I've shot them successfully at velocities above 3,600 fps; from a .224" cal 1-14.

They've been our go-to bullet for use on " Soybeanus Digestus ",
for 40+ yr.

Old school, but devastatingly effective.

Speer TNT has been my pick, but nosler varmiggedon, blitz king, v-max are all excellent too.

Some years ago when PMC ammo was in production in Henderson, Nv, they were going to start loading a Varmint bullet. The Pres of PMC knew that I knew were there was a very target rich environment for grounds squirrels. The Pres had their ballistician load up 250 each of Nosler ballistic tips, v Max and Sierra Blitz kings in 22/250.

In order to get a balanced idea of each bullet, Pres and I shot the entire 250 of each before starting on the next type, we used the same Rem 700. When we got to the Sierra Blitz king, there was a noticeable difference, in that the blitz king was more explosive on the ground squirrels. Hence, PMC loaded the 50g Blitz king in their 22/250 factory ammo, Sierra had not yet developed the 55g Blitz king.

Sierra puts a "match" grade jacket on their blitz king bullets which is sorted for concentricity, which accuracy hounds will really appreciate.

I opt to shoot the 55g Nosler ballistic tips on coyotes because they are tougher, punch through shoulders, ribs, hip joints. IN my custom 223,223 AI, and 22/250 AI these nosler ballistic tips will shoot very tiny groups in 14 Twist barrels.

With my 223 ackleys at 4100 fps I have been using 40 grain Vmax for many years. They can really make prairie dogs into acrobats.I can only imagine them in 22 BR OR 22-250.
Anyone know who sells these in seconds? I would like a bucket full of them.

I have shot the 55 grain Nosler BT, the Sierra Blitzking, and Hornady VMAX side by side out of a 22-250 AI at around 3800. Performance can be kind of subjective because it seems that you never get the identical shot presentation.
In my opinion the BT was the least explosive but I could not tell any real difference between the Blitzking and the VMAX other than cost.

Barnes Varmint Grenades by far most explosive, also by far least accurate.

Try the Berger's.

I've seen Hornady seconds occasionally on midway, Sierra you gotta go to the plant, and I'm using as many of the SPS nosler seconds I can. Turns out the blemish is increased frangibility...
