What the smallest centerfire?

There is the .10 Eichelberger Dart,
case length of .683" and a case capacity of 6.3 grs,
and .12 Squirrel , case length of .976", case capacity of 9.6 grs,
are the smallest wildcats so far, that I know of..

Tia,
Don

.14 is about as small as you want to go and have some reasonable success and be able to clean it, etc.
I have one of the 10 rifles Cooper made up on the model 38 in 14 Walker hornet. All used Lawerance bbls. Fairly impressive pushing a 15 grain slug at 4000fps with 10 grains of powder.

I bet that would turn a sparrow inside out!

Shot a starling once that landed on the target board, found some feathers, but still had a pair of feet holding the target board.

I did that oncw with a 222 and a pigeon...but i can appreciate the little hotrod starling whacker.

17 raptor is 5.7x28 necked down to 17?

Yes, there's a 17 Velociraptor and 17 Kit Fox. The 17 VHA and 17 SCC use a 4.6×30mm H&K parent case. However, the 14 Squirrel I mentioned above is even smaller in cartridge length. It's a 22 Hornet significantly shortened to 0.982" and necked down to either 20, 17, 14 12, or 10 calibers respectively. I mentioned the 14 caliber version, since the OP was seeking smallest in which the brass, bullets and barrel were available for purchase.

I can't imagine loading for a .14 cal!
Have a tough enough time grabbing those slippery lil' .17 cal 30gr boolits, and lucky they've got boattails to help get 'em seated proper...

Don't be to judgemental on the 17's (both 17 AH and 17/222 Rem)and the 20's (20 Tac). Shoot all three and they are dum-dum accurate at 100 yards. If you don't push to the max, I mean not a lot of difference in 3800 and 4200 fps (as far as the game is concerned), they don't foul noticeably more than 22's. Have seen them pushed to 5000 fps and at that speed they not only foul but they tend to disintegrate. Imagine the 22's would also LOL
Push my 20 tactical pretty hard out of a 22 inch Contender pistol and if I do my part it is a death ray out to about 400 yards. No recoil and once you learn the little tricks you can watch the hit in the scope.
Safe shooting
Doug

Don't any of you guys remember Blaine Eddy's article in SCN titled "14 for 14 with a 14" about his 14 cal. coyote rifle?

Yes, it's the 14-221 like member "JohnW...ski" posted a photo of one on page 1 of this thread. It's an impressive feat that Blaine achieved with the wildcat.
