ultralight chassis for 22-250 build

flexible

Silver $$ Contributor
Hi everyone, flexible here.
Just beginning to plan for a 22-250 build. The purpose will be threefold: to (sometimes) get away from lugging BR and F class heavyweight rifles for informal target shooting, varmint hunting and to get my 13 year old grandaughter started in centerfire rifle shooting.
Looking at: the XLR Element 4 or the MDT HNT26
thanks

Might help if we knew what action your using.
Rem 700 pattern there is a plethora of stock makers to choose from.
Tikka or Savage, not so much.

To get your grand daughter to start shooting, I'd recommend a heavier stock to help mitigate the recoil.

Some adjustability to better fit her would be good too!
Something along the lines of a Boyds AT-One.
Or a stock from Choate. (Theirs usually weigh in about 4lbs. )

For you, hunting, that's a different story.

Tons of quality stocks and chassis abound!
Just depends upon your price range.

Blackhawk axiom length adjustable, recoil reducing stock. Have one on my m700 22-250 coyote rifle. No poi shifts. Very comfortable to shoot off bags or bipod.

I sure like my krg bravo. Not too heavy and the price is right. My tikka with Bartlein 6 creed shoots consistent .5 moa with hornady match ammo with a bipod. No bedding needed.

You can't go wrong with the XLR Element 4.0 MG with carbon buttstock and grip.
In mine I'm running a 26" MTU barrel for NRL Hunter matches and even with a folder it still comes in under 16#

For your stated purpose you need a 222 or 223. Less recoil and noise. Much better barrel life. Less powder, cheaper more plentiful brass.

This is sound advice.

While a 22 250 is a premier long varmint cartridge, it does not lend itself to target shooting especially in sustained firing sequences due to increase throat erosion from the heat generated.

I'm assuming you're handloading. H4895 will give some lower velo loads that are still accurate and won't punish the shooter or the barrel.

Mark @ Exo Mtn Gear did a comparison between those two stocks (XLR Element 4.0, MDT HNT26). The guy hunts a lot and spends plenty of time in the field.
