Parallax question

I have been shooting long range for over 10 years and I still feel like I could be better at eliminating parallax when I shoot. I would love to hear any tricks or methods used by you guys to check and remove parallax.

Thanks.

With the gun perfectly still, move your head left and right and up and down while looking through the scope. If the reticle moves off your intended point of aim you have not adjusted the parallax out yet.

Adjusting for peak target sharpness is easy, as is adjusting for zero parallax. Sometimes, having both at the same point of objective or side focus adjustment can be an issue. What makes you think that you may have a problem?

To eliminate parallax completely, you need a riflescope that allows you to focus the lens at the distance of the target, not a fixed distance parallax. An adjustable objective is the best, easiest way to accomplish this reliably. After that comes the side focus scopes that bring issues of their own but are usually quite good now, if you do it properly. AOs are getting rare since everyone wants a side focus knob.

You can eliminate parallax in any scope by keeping your eye well back of the eye relief distance (where the eyepiece image is full size) to a point where the image appears as though looking through a tunnel - this is called "vignetting". When you center the image in the resulting black circle -you eliminate parallax. The further back you hold your eye the least amount of parallax occurs. The only problem with this method is it alters shooting form which might cause greater inaccuracy than effects of parallax.
