old Wilsion FL dies,,any tips

on a whim I recently purchased s wilson FL die in 284 Win, wasnt sure what exactly i had ad moreover how tu use it properly. first question us about the long pin, as per the wilson tech it is used to push the sized case fron the body; seems there could be a beter way. I tried a new NORMA 284,pulled the case out a measured body to ogive and out side neck diameter ,looks good.
my plans were to use an S type reddind die FL and a wilson seater dieas my only dies for thi rifle. this rifle will be used for club shoots at 600 and 1K. 30' krieger tuned 700 action, radial brake, you're opinions on this r

don't know if this helps but on one of my wilson sizers i use a small screwdriver under the cartridge rim to remove it from the die. releases with little effort and doesn't require the pin to drive it out.

If the design is like a Wilson 243 Win. fl sizer I had 20 to 25 years ago, there is no way to control the amount one bumps the shoulder or sizes the neck. It takes a stout arbor press to size a fired case and as you mentioned a rod and a hammer to drive the case out of the die. I used a now discontinued B-Square arbor press that has two support columns. I used the fl die to size about 20 cases before retiring it. In my experience, there were good reasons why Wilson discontinued this product. Be careful not to damage your arbor press as most arbor presses now sold for bullet seating and neck sizing are not designed for full length sizing.

as far as sizing the shoulder, that was my concern. I have a heavy arbor press so when I sized the case all the way to the stop but the length to the shoulder didnt change. unless the chamber is .002 longer than this measurment I guess I'm screwed. I bought this die thinking it would be a back up to an s type die, but that's not looking good now. I havent gotten into the neck area yet (concerning this die)
