Rimfire Shuetzen

Rimfire Schuetzen is catching on here in Phoenix. Figured I'd post some info regarding an upcoming event and recent post on Eley's website.

Rimfire Schuetzenfest

I am pleased to announce that The Arizona Schutzenverein will be conducting the first annual Rimfire Schuetzenfest at the Phoenix Rod and Gun Club on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Practice will begin at 8 AM on the Smallbore Range. The match will commence at 9 AM.

The course of fire consists of 50 shots fired from a bench rested position and 50 shots from a standing position. All shooting is done at 100 yards. Participant may choose to shoot one or both positions. All shooting will be fired on an official American Single Shot Rifle Association target. (See http://www.assra.com for more info). Additionally, there will be a “King” match where each shooter is provided the opportunity to take one shot at a target 100 yards away. The closest to the center will be awarded the winner of the “King” event.

This event is limited to falling block and rolling block type rifles (no turn bolts). There will be BSA Martini rifles available for shooters who wish to participate, but do not own a rifle sutiable for this event. It is requested that those using the loaner rifles use Standard Velocity/Match Grade ammunition.
Participants need to provide their own eye protection and ear protection. It is suggested that shooters bring a staple gun, rifle rest/sandbags and a spotting scope.
Cost to participate is $15. This entry fee includes, lunch and one raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets are available for $3 each or you may purchase 2 for $5. Prizes include ammunition, cleaning supplies and additional items. All proceeds from this event will go toward funding further Schuetzen activities and projects!

It is requested that participants contact Scott Elliott to RSVP a spot if possible due to planning for meals. For additional information please contact Scott Elliott, scottwilliamelliott@yahoo.com

Looking forward to having you out Franko! Things are coming together and we have door prizes lined up.
Norma USA has signed on as a sponsor :)

Scott-
Good luck and hope you have a huge turn out for this match. Our schuetzen club here in Cody has not been near as active the past few years as we were, but we still shoot. Another 22 schuetzen match you should get your group involved in is the Winter Postal League...its managed by the Davenport Iowa club and gives us in colder climes something to do over the winter.
I started shooting schuetzen in the mid 90s when Coors was still a sponsor at the big national match and attended 8-10 matches at Raton. It is an addictive sport and you will see some of the finest examples of rifles as an art form on the firing line. Looking forward to seeing your results.

Keith,
I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do to grow Schuetzen. I will let the folks know about the Winter League. You are correct about the rifles they are gorgeous!
Some of the guys I shoot with regularly like Byron and Randy shot some Coors matches. I couldn't imagine have that much support for Schuetzen.
Scott

Unfortunately the matches around Memphis are run during the week. Back in SW Ohio there will be more opportunities. I try to practice Sunday afternoons when not kayaking. The Anschutz 54s are a pleasure to shoot, but there is something special about the 1800's Ballards, Winchesters, and Stevens. For pure fun a K98 and a 1903-A1 converted to rimfire see range time; talk about your looooong trigger pulls. But two weeks ago the K98 100 yard groups, offhand unsupported, were equal to my AR15 (service rifle reduced course).

Scott...if you're referring to Randy W. the artist, I shot with him on several occasions at Raton. I have a few of his pieces hanging on the wall as well. Next time you see him give him a hello from me.

Well we had a pretty good showing. Thirteen die hard shooters came out and braved some very windy conditions. A big thank you goes out to Norma USA and Pro-Shot Products for supporting our event :)

**I will be putting together a more informational report report including an equipment list in the near future.**
