what size bushings

Getting ready to order dies and brass for new cbi remage barrel. what size bushings do you all recommend ordering?brass will be new blue box lapua and widden or redding dies. do the widden dies take redding bushings?

.268, .267, .266. I just got a new box of Lapua blue box. a loaded round mics at .269.

whidden die recommends you seat a bullet in a case measure neck then subtract .003" i just bought a .266 it works great Bill

Just a thought. Are you going to skim turn your brass? Ya might lose a thou or two.

Question...when you say, "seat a bullet, then measure"...is this done before sizing? As in, just stick a bullet down the neck by hand, measure and then figure out your bushings? I would think, since you can't do it w/o having the proper bushing, but would there be an issue with unsized brass giving false readings? I have a piece I can easily place a bullet into.

I have blue-box Lapua 6BR that I had DJ hydro-form into Dasher for me. I'm trying to figure out what bushing. I have a Redding FL neck bushing die I'll use for sizing. Thank you.

edit to add: I just measured 0.269" on a piece...I have a 0.267" bushing now...guess I'll get the .266" to be safe.

this thread got me thinking on just how accurate these bushings are. I ordered some minus pin gauges which came in today. all my Redding titanium nitride bushings are marked .001" over the actual measurement. My one CRT bushing is marked .001" under actual. YMMV.

Yea theyre all over the place. You can take 4 bushings from the same mfr and marked the same size and youll have 4 different sizes.

Have you mic. out your pin guages with a good mic, I have and they can be all over the place too.

I measured three. .249, .268, and .267. this was after carefully zeroing my mic (Mitutoyo). I stopped turning the knob as soon as the dial stopped...didn't allow it to ratchet. they all measured .0001 to .0002 under the stated thickness as they should have.

That is something I never thought of. Thanks for that tip--I see a set of good quality pin gauges in my future--can you make a recommendation? dedogs
Google Zoro, I ordered Vermont gauge (made in USA) pins over the phone. told the operator the sizes I wanted rather than searching through their website. they're about $2.00 each. you want to specify "minus" pins. they're .0002" under the specified size.

Just my opinion, but it makes no difference at all what the bushing is marked vs. what it actually measures. Yes, it would be nice if they actually did but they don't, never have, never will. There are so many other factors that affect how far down a given bushing will size a neck that it is irrelevant anyway. No one wants to spend more money than they have to but in this case it is the nature of the beast. Figure out what bushing you THINK you need by measuring and then buy it and 2-3 sizes on either side of that one and then get to experimenting. Shoot some with different bushings and see which one shoots the best. Over time if one does not anneal, chances are you will have to use a tighter bushing to get back to where you need to be.

I will say that the bushings from CRT seem to be very nice and measure consistently to what is marked on them, at least the same variance from measured to marked from one to the next, but I have limited experience with them but so far so good.

It makes a difference to those of us maniacs that want to run 1/2 thou. clearance on their necks. YES I can see the difference on paper + brass prep + longevity. YMMV dedogs

Thanks for the replies, guys I will look into these. I think I am on Dusty's ignore list for a jab I took at him some time back. dedogs

Are you saying that you change your chamber neck to cartridge neck clearance with the size of bushing you use? I'm confused, just trying to clarify.
