Yea theyre all over the place. You can take 4 bushings from the same mfr and marked the same size and youll have 4 different sizes.this thread got me thinking on just how accurate these bushings are. I ordered some minus pin gauges which came in today. all my Redding titanium nitride bushings are marked .001" over the actual measurement. My one CRT bushing is marked .001" under actual. YMMV.
I measured three. .249, .268, and .267. this was after carefully zeroing my mic (Mitutoyo). I stopped turning the knob as soon as the dial stopped...didn't allow it to ratchet. they all measured .0001 to .0002 under the stated thickness as they should have.Have you mic. out your pin guages with a good mic, I have and they can be all over the place too.
That is something I never thought of. Thanks for that tip--I see a set of good quality pin gauges in my future--can you make a recommendation? dedogsYou can take 4 bushings from the same mfr and marked the same size and youll have 4 different sizes.
Google Zoro, I ordered Vermont gauge (made in USA) pins over the phone. told the operator the sizes I wanted rather than searching through their website. they're about $2.00 each. you want to specify "minus" pins. they're .0002" under the specified size. That is something I never thought of. It makes a difference to those of us maniacs that want to run 1/2 thou. clearance on their necks. YES I can see the difference on paper + brass prep + longevity. YMMV dedogsJust my opinion, but it makes no difference at all what the bushing is marked vs. what it actually measures.
