Just Starting F Class - Front rest - Buy Now or get in line?

Just starting to shoot F Class and in need of a high quality front rest. I'm using a "Caldwell Rock".
I shot a 500 yard event and my scores where 191, 188, and 194. Had a blast!

I have researched rests until I'm blue in the face, but I need some advice that is relevant to THIS POINT IN TIME.

SEB Neo's are about 9 months out.
Farley's are available now.
Sinclair (JJ) rest is available now.
Randolph / Fulghum rest is available now.

I see my options today as....

A) Buy a Farley F Class model.
B) Get on the list for a SEB NEO, wait 9 months, and try to hone skills with "Caldwell Rock".
C) Buy a Farley, use it, get on the list for NEO, and then sell the Farley.
D) Buy the JJ / Sinclair now and possibly update later.
E) Buy the Randolph / Fulghum rest possibly update later.
F) Buy the _______ rest.

I'm leaning toward option A or C.

I would really like to hear your recommendation.

Get on the list for a Neo. You might be surprised that the wait won't be as long as you might have been initially told. I'm assuming you've had a chance to try one and that's what you want?

If money is not a limiting factor and you really believe the Caldwell is holding you back, then pick up a Farley and try it for a while. Nothing at all wrong with it and you may end up liking it just as much as the Neo. If not, then you sell it for a few hundred dollars less than what you paid and move on.

If you are on a tight budget, stick with the Caldwell till your Neo is ready. So many facets of this game that you can polish in the meanwhile.

Buy the Farley now so you have a top piece of equipment, AND put the seb on order. then when you get the NEO you can shoot both and decide which to keep.

This is a precision game, and everything matters. Quality is not money wasted.
I started with Sinclair competition. Great vertical and windage adjustments, slower to set up on the line for gross vertical elevation. It got me to HM for both mid and long range.
Just shot my first 600 yd. match with NEO yesterday after a many month wait. Wow, excellent tracking, quick to set up, the adjustment stick takes a little getting used to but it printed a 200-17x on its first use.
I'm keeping both.

I shoot F-Open off a Harris bipod, so maybe you should ask someone else.

I view F-Class as practice for hunting or other field use, and I also like the only difference (for me) between F-TR and F-Open to be the lower wind drift of the higher BC bullets.

You may find that you like having the hands on input of the non stick rest. That is what I found after waiting and getting the Neo. They are truly a shooters best friend and make things a bit easier.......I ended up selling mine. My learning curve seems to be a bit tougher as I like handling/touching my gun so there seems to be a lot more that can go wrong. I can shoot well and my equip. is sound.....Will I be going out and breaking records.....NO.....But compete at a high level for sure.....And have a whole lot of fun doing it....Absolutely........Rick

I'd get on the list NOW, and decide if you want to keep using what you have or buy a Farley.

Older Gen SEBs pop up on the Forums about once every other month. You could go that route too, nothing wrong with that rest.

In the meantime depending what rear bag you're using you might be dropping more points there, or as other's have stated in other areas of your game.

^^ what he said. It can be bolted to a bigger base and make do to keep you going. You will get a joystick in the end but you can be clever and soup up what you got and do just fine. Anything that wobbles needs to be locked down then move to bags.

I started with a Caldwell BR and modified the rest top to be more stable and put longer feet on it for sitting on the ground. It worked OK for my first season in Fclass. I then bought a Farley and found it to improve my scores and the consistency of those scores. The Farley is a huge upgrade. I have not personally tried the SEB as of yet.

Get on the list for a SEB. The Farley is a good rest but it is not as good as a SEB and Farley seems to have problems with support after the sale - SEB service is great. Use your Caldwell until then. You will be surprised how quick 9 months goes by.

Might want to look at these by-pods from Canada your us dollar is very long in Canada
Remple is a jem but its over 3lbs, Star shooter are great under 2lbs I have been using star for 4 years love it

For what it's worth, I recently bought an F-Open rifle and got on the list for the Neo. For the 'wait period' I bought a Bald Eagle rest from Bullets.com.

I have not used any other rests (I mainly shoot F/TR) so I do not have a lot of points of reference but I have to say I am very impressed by the Bald Eagle rest. Nice, heavy, easy to adjust and the rest + front bag + F-class feet+ the long screws totaled about $300 shipped. Hard to beat in terms of value.

I would be perfectly happy shooting of a chunk of timber and a sandbag. I would be willing to bet, any points you lost wre not lost because you were using a Caldwell rest. Spend you money on bullets and powder and you will be on a more cost-effective path. WH
