March 8-80x or 10-60x

Is anybody using the 8-80? Can you actually use it on 80x and is it clear

How about the 10-60x I've never had a chance to look through either scope and I'm wondering if they're worth the money?

I have used the 10-60 and a friend has a 8-80. Yes the 80 does darken at full power the field of view is relatively small BUT it is more than usable and it is 80 power. If I was buying a new scope in this range it would be the 80x and would not even consider the 60x. Remember when you turn a 60x down it goes to 45-50x when you turn down a 80x its down to 60x+. I really liked the 80x. The 60x is nice also. If you want clarity and brightness go with the NF Comp 15-55. We have had them all on the line together on a damp dreary day and the NF was the winner hands down!!

Jason, last fall I bought a 10-60. We could exchange info and figure out a way to meet up at Humboldt. You could shoot a group or two and know for sure. I don't know anyone that has a NF Comp to compare unfortunately. I'd like to see them side by side myself.

I've owned and competed with a variety of March Scopes. My personal favorite is the 10-60x52 and I'd use that over the 5-50X or the 8-80X.

I also compete with NF Comp 15-55 currently and in my opinion, it's at least as good as the March 10-60x52. The whole litany of amateur "I set these side by side and X was way brighter and clearer!" means nothing to me - I can't tell difference. I doubt any of those people really can either. It's all 100% subjective.

To me, the most important question is whether your scope is mechanically sound. Are the clicks intervals as advertised? If I dial in 2.125 MOA, do I *get* 2.125 MOA? And can you click away and come back to the exact same place, every time?

Those are the only two scopes that I would currently consider for competition based on my available budget. The new Vortex looks interesting. Just keep in mind that opinions on scopes are like @ssholes - everybody has one and they are generally worth exactly what you paid for them, including mine. ;-)

The man asked a question and I felt I answered it to the best of my knowledge. Just because YOU can't tell the difference doesn't mean someone else can or can not. The day I mentioned was a damp dreary raining dark day. There was a 8-80, 10-60, 12-42 br and a 15-55 comp all set up after the match that day and 6 or 7 people. The owners of the march scopes and other shooters we ALL agreed the 15-55 was clearer and brighter when all were set on 42 power. Then we turned the others up to there max power and ALL still agreed that the 15-55 was the hands down winner. I agree the tracking of a scope is more important that the clarity.

When the man ask a question I felt I did my best to answer it and it was just not my opinion but the opinion of 6 other people. If someone can not get to see all these scopes in person then these opinions are all he has to go by and I thought that seven opinions might just help him a little. Sorry my @sshole does not agree with your @sshole.

Not to hijack but, since it was mentioned that the 8-80 "darkens" @ high magnification could this be a benefit on bright days vs modifier disks or extended shades ?

Uh, I don't recall replying directly to your comment or even vaguely referencing you. Frankly, I never bothered to read your earlier comment, or any of the others. :-/

Sorry if you took offense, but that's sort of how the Internet works, for better or worse. Like I said, everyone has an opinion and if you are gonna get all bothered by someone else's comment (including ones that have nothing to do with yours), then the Internet is probably the wrong place for you.

Many shooters will only be able to afford one high end scope.

This is without ever being able to use the equipment beforehand, and having no way to compare brands.

Minute features between top end scopes probably won't effect these same shooter's scores, but it could.

My NF Competition does not track true. Come ups were always a little short. A tall target test verified this.

I get sighters. I don't believe I've lost any points because of this.

However, the NF has more apparent mirage than other high end scopes I've looked through side by side. This may have hurt my score.

I'd bet that a lot of folks don't actually know if their scope tracks true. 9.8MOA vs 10MOA likely gets lost in the noise. I used to think my calculations were a little off or other environmental conditions effected come ups until I did a tall target test and found out.

I will be as unbiased as possible. I have had NF- US optics and Leupold scopes on F Class rifles. About 5 years ago when Kelbly's imported March scopes I bought 2 8-80 scopes. Are they as good as other scopes, yep they are. I now have 4 of them on FTR and Open rifles. Does it get a little dark at 80x, sometimes it does. It is not a big deal, dial it back to 60x. I actually like and depend on shooting at 80x. When the mirage is high you see a very fuzzy target, don't shoot cause something changed. The slight darkness is not really a disadvantage you get used to it and on bright days it is not there at all.

I can't compare to the newer high end scopes but March will hold its own. Go ahead and buy one, it will be as good as anything else on the market, or buy any other high end scope. They all work.
