March glass vs Nightforce and Leupold

In three years I couldn't shoot a teen agg
Not long after purchasing a used 40x March I shot my first teen agg then another at the next match to finish out the season last year.
I had been using a 45 leupold comp

Just FYI, we (March Optics USA Inc.) have a USA servicing center and you no longer have to send the scopes to Japan if you live within USA. We also have added 5 more years of servicing of the March scopes for any scopes purchased from March Optics USA Inc. or its dealers.
Shiraz. Did you see the thread on Benchrest Central (SCOPE TRACKING) about Jackie Schmidt's March 50X giving up after putting thousands and thousands of rounds thru that rifle with that scope on it. Jackie said that he was going to attempt to take it apart. Jim Kelbly chimed in and said that all the lenses are glued on and it takes a special machine to unglue the lenses and it takes 24 hours for the machine to do that and he said no one even the new March Dist, (meaning your company) could do it successfully?

No, Jim, didn't see that thread.

We would be happy to look at the scope for him, no matter how old. If its a quick fix, will take care of it at no charge. If it is serious, we will give him the options. We DO NOT recommend that a customer take apart a scope. We have a factory trained engineer here on staff as well as tens of thousands of dollars worth of optical equipment for testing and calibrating scopes.

I will see if I can get on that thread and take care of Jackie.

My Leupold 45 is not up to what I would consider exceptable, I withdraw the sucks statement! At 100 yards I can read all the writing on the target with the NF and Sightron, not so with the Leupold. Just a little disappointed I guess. And the end result of me shooting 50 rounds with it was a big headache from the image being slightly out of focus.
Send it back for repair. My LCS's might not reveal true natural colors like other scopes with ED glass, but I can certainly read the printing on score targets. I didn't buy it for bird watching. Too many LCS's still winning major matches for me to go in another direction.

Ok, I get it now! Looks like I need to visit Mr Shiraz's website and grab a March. Just out of curiosity, if I were to purchase a used one does the warranty transfer?

Seems like that's all people do when they own a Leup is send it back for repairs.

Ya Shiraz I just saw that 2 seconds ago. Oh Well. He offered to sell the scope for 500 bucks and he said if he didn't have any takers he was going to take it apart. I offered him the 500 bucks, but I guess he opted to take it apart and see what makes it tick. I really could of used another 50.

Yes. We can tell from the serial number how old the scope is. We will not warranty a scope that has been altered or abused (as referred to happening in the post above - post #27). 5 years full warranty and 5 years servicing. Try to get the invoice date from the guy you buy it from.

We even warranty scopes that were bought from Kelblys. March is here for the long haul and the scopes are incredible, if I may say so myself. I have been a big user for many years and won many gold medals with my Marchs.

$500.00 before he started to dismantle it would have been a screaming deal. Ten to one, we could have fixed it, probably at no charge.

That's good news, I was always a little hesitant reading about the standard 5 year warranty on a scope that expensive. Sounds good to me except your store is in my backyard, which means 150.00 in sales tax!

Yes it would of been a hell of a deal. The only thing I would of done is change the dot. I don't think he had a 3/32 which is my favorite.

He got valdadas. He could care less now.
Hey shiraz i have a 40 thats so old it has the gray racing stripe on it that says "ed". First march sold as far as i know. I also have a newer 40. No invoices on them of course but there was only one place to get em then. Neither one is worth using they shift so bad. Are they under warranty? I never sent em in cause it took 6mo to japan and cost money to fix em previously.

Chances are that the first one "that's so old" is not under warranty. The Warranty is 5 years plus another 5 years servicing. Call in to the March Optics number on the website http://marchoptics.com/#/ and give them the serial number. We will check with Japan when that scope was sold and let you know if it is under warranty. If not, and you still want it fixed, send us the scope and we will look at it to see what is wrong and then quote you the price to fix it.

I've never owned a March scope but have owned a few Nightforce BR's, a Leupold and a 10x50 sightron on my bench guns. Is the glass in the March better then the Leupold?
My dilemma is this: I had a new 30Br built at 13.5lbs with the Leupold 45 comp. The glass in the Leupold sucks compared to my Nightforce and even the Sightron. I want to get the Leupold off the gun but am hesitant to drop the coin on the March and I've heard the new fixed power Nightforce doesn't have great glass either. I need some real opinions from people that have used all of these scopes!
Hey Scarab,
Regarding glass quality, any of the newer scopes with low-dispersion ED glass are going to look outstanding. NF Comp, March, etc. I've always found Leupold glass to be of very good quality. That said, the mechanical components of a scope are far more important than how the glass looks when competing for score or group. A good scope should track repeatably and precisely....every time. It should hold poi always. The only two companies I personally know meet this standard are Nightforce and March...and I have experience with a few of the other ones. ;) Leupolds have good glass, but spend way too much time in the repair shop. I've heard great things about Sightron in terms of reliability, but have no experience with them.

Now, anything that is mechanical and made by man is going to fail eventually, so it's always a relative comparison. NF and March are top of the pile in my experience and the models with ED glass will be as clear as anything out there. Personally, I prefer the March tactical scopes because they are a little lighter than the NF and have superbly labeled windage turrets. They are clearly and simply labeled which really helps on the windy days at 1,000 yards when you have 9 or 10 minutes on your scope.

Another company I have experience with is IOR-Valdada: owned three of their scopes over the years. I don't own IOR scopes anymore: poor quality control in my experience. Beautiful glass though...

Also, I had to send a March scope in for service recently. The 1/4 MOA reticle dot was smaller than advertised. I'd like to commend Shiraz and his team for the outstanding service. It had to be sent to Japan so they could replace the reticle. Everything was handled promptly and professionally and I had the March folks contact me twice by email to ask how I wanted to handle certain details: their English was surprisingly good! They also replaced my magnification ring which I had originally sanded down for clearance. I did not need the extra clearance any more and the factory was kind enough to put a new ring on at no charge....great people.

Now, if the March or NF are out of your price range, the Weaver T-series are another brand that track flawlessly! They are a little less expensive. :D

OP -would you mind letting us know what the letter in the suffix of the s/n is?

Jim,
I've got a 50 power with a crosshair you can have. I took it in on trade. 1500.00 and it's yours.

Anything mechanical can break. We just had a 15-55 NF totally fail. I think your chances between the top makers are probably equal. Unless you have a tunel, or scope tester how do you really know if you scope is shifting a slight amount? I know I dont shoot well enough to know that like some of the PPC shooters can.
