NRA Membership?

NRA Is not high on my list right now.
The reason is our gun club have tried for over 3 months to get them to do a range inspection. Our gun club is in trouble with country. They want us to bring the range up to NRA standards.
We have nearly 1000 members .
If NRA dont help soon we won't have a range. Larry

Do it yourself, as a club! You have 1000 members.... take up a collection and form work parties. It's not that hard. If the members don't care enough to contribute in one form or another, they just might not deserve to have a shooting range.

Get the "NRA standards" that some "country" wants to hold you to, in writing, then go meet and EXCEED them.

Once you have met/exceeded the standards that they agreed to in writing, then kick back and enjoy your club.

Or do you expect the NRA to also foot the bill and do the work too?

We have plenty of dirt and money to move it . But without NRA giving guidelines . Where or how high means nothing . We know they will charge for the specifications They have ben non responsive . Without NRA approval we are just days away from being closed.
Larry

What are they asking you to comply with? Is it a zoning requirement, removal of lead, ADA problem?

Keep our bullets on our property . Larry
That's a responsibility your club will have to deal with. Have you asked your local officials for their recommendation?

The NSSF can supply you with berm size and location. With berm size and location, you also have to provide ricochet protection on both sides.

They want NRA to give the guidelines . We can always exceed them. If a berm hasn't to be 60'hight They will know . If we have the NRA Specifications to show the country they will work with us . Larry

The NRA can't offer anything more than the NSSF. As I stated, the NSSF will gladly offer the specs to you. If the county government is looking for detailed engineering, get your check book out.
Or do nothing and close . My problem is why has NRA has done nothing . We give them a 1000 members a year. The range is also open to the public . Larry

If the range is "unsafe", your club has a responsibility to put it in a safe condition to satisfy your local officials. Having range officers on site is a very small part of the requirements. Things have changed…. this isn't 1960. I had to submit for approval, a detailed drawing to our Township to erect a fence on my own property.
They are asking for the range to be up to or exceed NRA specifications and they have be non responsive. Larry

This "country" that you keep speaking of apparently has some specs in mind... ask them what you need to do to comply.

I doubt that they are just wanting the NRA to say "Yep, meets our 'standards' ".

If you have bullets escaping the property, know the range is " unsafe", and know that work needs done, but continue to sit on your hands while waiting for the NRA to offer something, in the next few days, you might as well lock the gate right now.

If bullets are escaping, do you really think the NRA is going to come out, inspect it, and bless it? Your club needs to be moving dirt YESTERDAY.

You are WAY behind the power curve if you are "days away from being closed" right now, and haven't made any more attempt at rectifying your situation than waiting on the NRA.

Actually, it sounds a lot like a liberal's way of thinking.....

We have known for over 3 months and we have tryed to get a response from NRA . They have been non responsive . I expect from NRA the service they offer .
I have no problem closing it . But as a life time member since 1956 I feel they are jerking us around. They have no problem calling for donations. Larry

In that 3 month period of time, you could have ordered the book, put the range into a safe and acceptable condition, and at that point, asked the NRA for an inspection. Inspectors inspect the work that has been performed. They don't show up, hold your hand and hang around waiting for you to give them something to inspect.
We have the books and they don't saying anything about how to build a 1000 yd range And nothing about separation berm at the 600 yd range . Along with 40 pistols berms and inter great them together. Cowboys action range Along with 3 gun range

Larry you mean you guys are waiting for an Inspection on a 1000 yard range! If you go to our web page I believe there are pictures of our pits and berm. It was inspected buy the NRA. But the big problem you will have is having it open to the public. We have to tell people NO all the time! When they call and want to try there 338 Lapua's just to see if it will shot that far. We tell them we have a school, and you need to want to shoot Competitively. We are not open to the public.
All we would need is someone start shooting over our berm, there are houses down the road a mile or so. So make sure they are trained properly.

We can't use pits our water table is too high.
We have 30 plus benches for rifles .40 pistols all on the 1000 yd range.16 benches on the 600 yd range 3 Cowboys action ranges Room for 30 plus benches for 200 yd or less Along with 20 benches for machine guns. And all the ranges are built wrong. Now the real kicker our board of directors Think the country has to prove the bullets came from the gun range. The country has Over 25 people who is willing to go to the country commisoners . They are all anti gun.
The park ranger is asking for a nra plan to stop the action from happening . Without out it I think the range is doomed .
Why when NRA offer the service dont they respond. As a NRA member I feel very disappointed.
Last year we had over 15000 shooters .
