Damaged Cartridge........What's up?

I have been reading this thread if your case did not chamber you definitely had a obstruction whatever it was doesn't matter if you didn't find anything in your chamber area or your lug area to identify what caused it throw that peace of brass away an move on there is no logical explanation here this has happened to most of us one time or another.

I once sent 1/2 a neck of a 22-250 case down the bore between a bullet and a barrel wall. That was why I went from a 1/4 inch group to not hitting an 8"x11" backer at 100. Sad to see that 40XB barrel go as a tomato stake.

Didn't figure it out till much later that day and found the case with the missing neck part...

Just catching up on this thread and have a few questions. Action type? Extractor type? Bedding material? Glue in? Composite or wood stock? Basically could any thing have broken off the bolt, bedding material, stock, action, or other part of the receiver? It wouldn't have to be much. Assuming it isn't a primer, I'd take a magnifying glass and go over those areas mentioned to see if there's a clean break somewhere.

My gunsmith, Eric Bostrom, just used his borescope to find a tiny piece of plastic material on the face of my BAT Dasher chamber. It was sometimes jamming the loading depending on where it ended up. The thing migrated into the lug recesses but got visible when it moved to just outside the chamber.

Use a borescope and look, look, look. My guess is it was a piece of plastic jag shaved off the end of a cleaning rod.

I just found this,, it is a brand new never fired piece of 6br Lapua brass that I just got done expanding the neck a little and chamfered and debured,, then I saw the imperfection.

That's a common thing in 6 BR Lapua. That one is a little more then most. Usually it's just a little mark. When fireforming to Dasher they usually blow through right there. I just pitch them. I don't want the burn and grit in my chamber. Matt

That is my thinking too,, I'm gonna toss it, don't want it to score my chamber if it leaks.

On second thought's what are my chance's of sending the whole 100 ct. box back to Lapua, even though 50 of them have been fired 12X, and them sending me another box?

Try to recreate it. Slip a spent primer into the chamber, then insert a case and see what happens...

If you look closely, I noticed a half moon mark on the moly coating of the bullet that is in alignment with the scratch leading to the dent. I see no evidence if a split neck either.

You ejected the dented round then loaded another and fired. A primer could have still been in the chamber or bore. You should have pulled the bolt and made sure the bore was OK.

Hell, I'll take a shot! I am not really familiar with the inside geometry of the action and barrel, but is it possible that the cartridge got cockeyed when you were rushing the bolt, and the shoulder wedged on a lug or barrel cutout? I shoot a 6.5x47L out of a 308 magazine and with an off bolt stroke, the cartridge will nose up and jam in the counterbore of the barrel. just a thought.
