PPC/Beggs size case with 223 boltface?

I'm pretty sure there isn't. However, it is possible to turn down PPC brass to fit a .223 bolt face. And it is also possible to have the bolt face opened up to .fit the PPC.

What are you wanting to do? If you are talking a cartridge in the 223 family with similar case capacity to PPC/220 Russian, then you need to look at the 223AI or 222 Mag based cartridges. I like the 223AI, but I LOVE the 20-223AI - simply unbelievable!

i agree with Joe, the 20-223 AI is a great option as is the 20 SCC if you want a smaller super efficient 20 caliber cartridge. With the 20SCC its common to push a 32 grain bullet at 4,000 + fps with 21.5 grains of powder.

my idea really revolves around the fact that I want to build a 20 or 220 Beggs, but want to use the spare action I have.

I would open the bolt face, but I have been told by numerous people to not bother on this particular action.

I already have a 222 rifle based on the same action, as well as one in 204 ruger (CZ527)....and I like the inherent accuracy of the Beggs case, not just the case capacity.

Contact CZ and inquire as to whether they will provide a 7.62x39 bolt for your rifle.

.20-223AI is what you want.

39gr. bullet at 4150 is a beast.

Almost exact case capacity as a .20PPC.

Phil.

I know you would be super impressed with the accuracy of the 223 AI, I was shocked after owning 4 of the 22 ppc's. Pick a powder, pick a bullet, they all shoot bug holes...no kidding.

I have rebated the rims of a 6PPC case so I could use it in a 223 bolt. This was a PTG bolt for a Remington 700. This bolt has a Sako extractor so you can't open it further without going to more expense converting it to an M16 extractor. I also had to bevel the inside of the bolt face to give a bit more clearance for the back end of the body of the PPC case even after rebating.

I sectioned several PPC cases so I could determine the minimum cross section I considered to be safe in the area that the case is being cut when rebating the rim and extractor groove. I then modified the face of the bolt to clear this case.

I am not familiar with the CZ bolt. It may be of a small enough diameter and shallow enough bolt face recess that you could do a simple rebate of the rim and extractor groove and not have to mess with turning the back of the case just above the extractor groove.

You have to have access to a lathe to do the rebating. It's a bit of a chore but if you don't abuse your brass with high pressures and anneal the cases at least every 5 loadings then they last basically forever.

Good Luck

PS - I have a 6Beggs in a 40X Remage BR rifle.

Please listen to what is being said here about the 223AI & 20-223AI. Case capacity is almost identical to PPC, but brass availability for the 223 based cartridges is much better & cheaper. I built 2 20 PPC rifles before I tried the 20-223AI; now they sit in the safe most of the time. I know it is hard to understand, but IMHO the 20-223AI is somewhat of a "wonder" cartridge. You just have to try it to believe what we are saying. Speed, accuracy, inexpensive & easy to live with - you just can't beat it. If you should decide to go with a 223AI, be sure to get a 9 or 10 twist barrel so you can reliably stabilize 53 V-Max and other little heavier bullets to really get the goody out of this round, which incidentally challenges the 22BR in performance.

I originally had CH4D make a FL die from the reamer print, but found later that the shoulder angle was not correct. Had Whidden's make a FL bushing die to fired brass & it is just right, so that is where I will go from now on. Also had them make a FL bushing die for my other current favorite, the 20-221Fireball AI, and it is just right, too.

Whidden for sizing dies and Wilson for the seating duties here........

Joe`s recommendation on the sizing dies...;)

Joe, Thank you for the reply, it sounds like a very interesting cartridge. I have a .20 cal. barrel looking for a chambering. dedogs

OK, so I just can't resist jumping onto the pile ---- this season played with 20-223 AI 1-11 and 1-9 barrels. Also started wringing out a 20 Blitz 1-9 and 20 SCC 1-11.

SmokinJoe and Wirelessguy spoke some profound wisdom here! (listen-up!)

Both the 1-9 20-223 AI and 20 Blitz break 3600 fps printing true bug holes with 55 gr. Bergers (checkout the BC/down range performance).

Other super positive discoveries this season were with the 20 SCC (Yowser!!!) and 20-223 AI with 1-11s using 32-39 gr. SBKs ---- all these 20 cals. are truly remarkable wonder cartridges! ---- Whidden dies? ---- now a must have!!

Happy Holidays to all. Tooter

I have the 20 Blitz in a 1-11 twist...with the 39gr Sierra, it will do 4150...for volume P-dog hunting I have it backed down to 4000 and it shoots very small groups. Wirelessguy will be the guy to talk to on one of these.
