brass tumbling--help

Ok so I pin tumble all may brass and it is nice and shinny. Now some time later it is all tarnished and dull again. How do I keep it shiny?

Make sure you have some car wax in the soap. It coats with a little wax and helps prevent it. Also store in an airtight container.

I hope you rinsed your brass and dried it properly which will accelerate tarnish. I put mine in airtight containers if I can or sealed freezer bags and roll the air out and seal. What kind of wax riflewoman?

I use the "Dillon Rapid Polish 290" and I've used the NuFinish car wax. My brother once threw in 1 cap full and it clumped up and bunch got inside a case and was hard to get out. I now drip it in the corncob/walnut one drop at a time and let it mix of a few minutes before I throw the cases in there. I use the polish every 5 to 7 cycles (mainly because I forget to use it) and the cases still come out looking better than new.

I tumble After I size the cases, so the Hornady OneShot lube left on the cases helps to clean them faster in the tumbler and probably ads to the shine.

After you SS tumble rinse in softened or filtered H2O and then in 90% isopropyl alcohol. Air dry or use a dehydrator or oven at 175Deg F for 1/2 hour. Then spray with One Shot case lube and let dry. Cases will stay bright almost indefinitely or until you are ready to size.

Go back to your days in the Military and remember that brass turns colors...The original brass was always covered in lacquer, which was removed with brasso remember? So, brass that has tumbled is now exposed to the elements and wnd will turn on you unless you cover it or protect it again. All the above works well.

Load it up, shoot it before it has a chance to tarnish, and tumble again.................. works for me.

For longer storage, try a zip lock bag with most of the air removed.

I always size & decap prior to washing & tumbling. Flitz makes a special tumbler additive for brass polishing. Has no ammonia. Leaves a protective film. I get the best polishing results using with corn cob media. Then, put it in air tight container. Works great!
