6x284 and Reloader 33

I'm putting together a new groundhog rig for next summer, going to be a Panda action, MBR stock 30" barrel chambered in 6x284 and was wondering if any of you have had good results with Reloader 33 in that chambering.

Thanks

I'm going to use Retumbo in mine,no experience with r33.
What twist are you using and what bullet,105 A-max?Welcome to the board, there was quite a good post a while back on the 6-284,might be worth a search.

Hello and welcome!

No experience with RL-33, but RL-22 works very well with 107's. I hope you are planning to use the long action Panda, short actions and long bullets can get to be a hassle....but they do work.

Best of luck!

I wanted to go with the long Panda but for some reason they don't make it with a cone bolt and I have a handful of barrels already chambered and set up for a Panda that I would like to be able to use.

Barrel will be a 1-8, planning on trying the 105 Amax and the 105 Berger VLDs, don't know what the performance of the Bergers will be like on hogs or even pushed that fast, I do know the Hornadys will do a nice job of popping. Might even give the Sierra 95 TMKs a run or 2 in it.

I'm sure it work out just fine from a standard action, mine did, but I got tired of messing with a single shot.

Have not shot the Berger 105's for many years after they vaporized on a hot day and already hot load. Switched to 107's and never had that issue again (that same hot day or any other). Maybe I had a bad batch with very thin jackets, hopefully they are better now?

Best of luck!

I'm waiting for my 6-284 barreled action to arrive and I have bought some RL 22, RL 33 and even a can of H-1000. I'll be trying the Berger Hybrid 105's to start with. I also have some 105 A-Max sitting on the shelf. FWIW I did many searches and a lot of 6-284 shooters brag on the RL22. My barrel will be an 8 twist at 30".

Mine is a Hart 8 twist at 30" and the RL-22 is what I settled on years ago, but H-1000 was a good shooter as well. I know the Hodgdon manual says Retumbo produces the highest velocity (in their line anyway) but I never was able to find enough to bother trying it. I did give H-50BMG a try but it was a bit too slow if I recall, groups were not terrible, though. RL-22 is temp sensitive so keep that in mind when working up loads in the winter that will be shot next summer as you may get a heavy bolt lift.

I shoot that bad boy cartridge . Mine has a Brux 30" 8" twist bbl and yes Re#22 is what's worked best for me. 51.5grs produces 3400 FPS 105 A-Max . Berger hybrids I never did find that sweet seating depth so I gave up.105 A-Max was doing everything I wanted. I might want to give Re#23 and Re#26 a chance . I know of a shooter on Long range hunting I think his name is AZ shooter who swears by Re#33 in his rifle.

What are the top velocity/accuracy loads in this cartridge in 26" barrel and what kind of barrel life have you guys been getting?

I've seen some of AZ shooters posts, I think I remember hearing that Kirby Allen was a fan of packing one full of 33 under a 105 AMAX also
