260 rem

i am thinking about a 260 rem for a 1000yd gun is there a better way to go in the 6.5 calibers ? i have a 6 br for the shorter range shooting just happen to like the 6.5 bullets i have a 6.5 x 284 cooper rifle for hunting and really like it. but for shooting a lot of bullets down range i thought the 260 maybe better ? what do you guys think?

I shoot my .260 to 850 regularly w/o issue or complaint. Will be moving to the grand mark this weekend. I cannot see it not making the trip.

thanks guys i think i will order a reamer form Dave k i already have a kreiger barrel 1& 8.5 twist if that is a fast enough twist i will be good to go lapua has that new 136 grain scenar bullet out that looks good but haven't tried it yet thanks again kochie Oh one more thing do you guys think i can use my 6.5 x 284 dies?

Yoshi, what is your very favorite bullet and powder combo?

130gr Norma Golden Targets in front of 43.5gr H4350. I have had this load out to 1260yds with good results.

My load is 42.0 H4350, Fed 210M, 140 Berger VLD, Lapua brass. I don't have a chrono but from the come up it is about 2825 fps from 28" Brux.

Do you think the re17 will burn the barrel out? Wow Yoshi 1250 yards with a .260 is saying something. That is great.

Hi Kochie,hi Jon,hi all

Kochie since you ask about it,I really can't see why you folks in the States seem to stick to american calibers, and quite strictly so...Of course I understand that it makes it easier in terms of availibily, tools, what not,but why don't you sometimes drop an eye on what Europ has to offer? 6.5x57 is a classic round over there, the case is the 7x57 necked down to 264.I believe that 7x57 Mauser, the parent case,or the 257 Roberts(some authorised wilcat)are pretty easy to come by in the old US of A;it countains a good deal of powder as opposed to the 308 case;if you want a reamer,in case you decide to go wildcat,JGS has one(I designed and ordered it)that goes by the name of 6.5x57 imp 30° CB,I reckon you'd be much more comfortable with a .295" neck rather than the .292" I asked, but it's there...I will give you details about how it goes pretty soon, stay tuned gentlemen.Just my 2 cent.Take care and good shooting.

FIFY. :) Just kidding and thanks for the compliment. I am quite pleased with the results. I toyed around with the thought of speeding her up, but during ladder-testing, 43.5gr seemed to be the sweet-spot. And, at 1260yds, I was getting clean hits and no keyholing. So, I have a pretty good recipe. I am guessing any further she'll start to destabilize.

I looked at the 6.5x57 before I got my .260 and I didn't see any advantage as they had similar ballistics. I'd love to try one though.

CLOD-NC i have used 6.5x47 lapua 6.5 x284 and did a 22x 47 lapua for varmint was a real good varmint gun so i have tried others but just want to try the 260 maybe i am get old and don't want to shoot them wildcats anymore been there an done that i don't want to fireform anymore or any of that stuff at least for now thanks for all the info kochie i got a plain old 6br and going to build a plain old 260 sounds good to me and easy right up my alley

I shot 140 nosler custom comps with 50.5gr h1000. I had a 28" barrel. Mine was also a 1-8 twist I was getting 2880fps with no pressure. A guy on another durum was shooting a 6.5 creed more at 1550yds on a24x24 steel. Has videos on youtube

Put a 30'' tube on it and 2850 FPS can be had with 140 gr Hybrids. Larry

the 260 is a stretch for 1000yd. Use either the 6.5-284, 6.5 Swede imp or 6.5WSSM which can easily reach 2950 or more.

1000yds is easy for a .260. Heck, it's easy for my .308. The 6.5-284 and it's like may get you there with less elevation, but the .260 is plenty good for 1000yds. YMMV.

I shoot the 260 Remington in F-Open. My loads are 44.5 H4350 for 130 Berger Hybrids and 42.5 H4350 for 140 Berger Hybrid. I am new to shooting 1000 but with 140's I stayed in the 9 ring or tighter. My issue is reading the wind more than the accuracy of the gun. But seeing what oither people more expeinced than I, the 260 wasn't giving up anything. I am getting 2845 out of a 30 inch Palma taper barrel. My 130 is getting 3010. In fact the ballistic calculator shows that the 130 should be every bit as good at 1000 as the 140.

Lapua cases and BR-2 primers.
