Looking for some good loads for the PPC to take on a varmint hunting trip in May. Have some 75 gr Vmax and 80 Berger FB Varmint I have used them in the 6mm BR but havent tried them out yet for the PPC. I had thought about trying some 70gr BT as well. Just looking for some good info from some of you who may have experimented with this. Thanks in advance.

If your PPC has a 13.5 or 14 twist I doubt you could develop enough velocity to stablize bullets as heavy as 75 or 80 grain. I would try the V-max bullets, but wouldn't have high hopes. The 58 or 65 grain V-max bullets might be a better choice.

I don't think you will ever stablize a 75 Gr. v-Max in a 1 in 14 twist.

The 60 gr. Sierra HP is a great choice for your varmint trip. Always worked well in PPC for me and it was a factory Ruger MK II Target.

Berger makes a 66gr and a 69gr varmint bullet that would be deadly accurate. Lee

xring,

Good news, 6ppc 14 twist is a great PD rifle. I have used V max 58g , Norma brass, 29.0g VVN-133 with very good results on 3 trips. Mine is a no turn neck Sako 75.

My 6PPC stabilized Berger 68g match no prob, 28.0g VVN-133. Good luck with it!

My rifle is factory SAKO AI Sporter with blind magazine (pencil barrel) 1:14 twist
Pet loads:
Berger 62 gr. target 27.2 of H322, CCI-BR4, seated 5 thou., avg. 3165 fps
VMax 58 gr. 27.7 of H322, CCI-BR4, seated 5 thou., avg. 3231 fps

Reduced load:
58 gr. Vmax, 5 thou from rifling, 8.0 grains IMR Trail Boss @ 1,718 fps
50 yd. group is .124", fun to shoot with no recoil....veryyyyyyy accurate !

Just for giggles I tried some Speer 80 grain Hotcore bullets in my 14 twist bench rifle to see if it would shoot good enough to restock into a varmint rifle. They shot a five shot group at around 1/2" as I remember with H322 loads from an older Speer manual. Not bad for a combination that shouldn't work! Tom

In a 1 in 14 twist I use 29.5gr N133 sparked by a 205 under a 65gr Vmax, about 3350fps. Sweet shooting and very accurate

I did the same thing with my Sako AI 6PPC sporter, got 3/8" 3 shot groups, also using H322

Don't rule out the Speer 70grn TNT bullets.

Go with what shoots the best. The varmint won't know the difference.

Once upon a time I loaded 58 gr V Max with VV 133 at 3500 fps, was very accurate, close to custom bullets but an occasional crazy shot ruled them out for competition. Devastating on groundhogs.
