10' 6BR - Will it shoot 95 B tips as well as 8'?

Want to know if the 10 twists guns will shoot this bullet as well as 8 twists, as would use for deer hunting. Also, I assume the 87 vmax and 70 TNT will do very well for varmint loads.

Shooters who have used the 95s, appreciate the replies.

65BR,

Yes, a 10 tw will shoot every bullet from a 95 VLD down to the lighter bullets. I have a 6BR 10tw now, and it will shoot 95 Breger's and 95 Bib's. I have not tried the Sierra's, yet. I say they should shoot too. A 90gr Berger shoots very well also. I had 2 6BRBS, one 10 tw and one 8 tw. The 10tw shot as well as the 8tw with the 95 Berger's.

Berger recommends a 1:9" twist for the 95gr VLD. Some guys have been able to stabilize this bullet in a true 1:10" twist, others have not. Stabilization is a function of both the rifling twist and the velocity.

Accordingly, you can try these bullets in your gun. They may work, they may not. They may also stabilize at closer range, and then become unstable at greater distances.

My ? pertains to a gun I may try, and my concern is I have taken deer to 400 yds with a 105 amax, and in lieu of the 105, due to the 10t bbl of the gun I may be using, I am considering substituting the 95 b tip, it's stouter constructed, though a lower BC, still should do the job, MOST shots at 250 or under, but a rare shot may come further,

Don't think a deer would know what bullet hit, if I center the lungs do you? As long as it's accurate, and not giving too much 'yaw effect' I am comfortable using it.

Any idea how accurate a 10t 6BR might shoot 95s?

Thanks all, appreciate the insight...as I have only had one 12t and the rest 8ts in the past in 6BRs.

my 10T shoots em with mild load of rl-10X

my 10T is a factory 243 barrel cut and shutto 6br and it shoots the 95's fine

I use the 65 V-max as my culling load for ferals over here in AU

if I was going to step upto something like a fallow deer or similar i'd use tha Lapua 90 grainer and be happy with a "reefer" full of meat

65BR,
How accurate is the 95 grain in a 10 twist?

I've been shooting a 95 BIB for a couple of years now in a 10 twist Lilja. I just measured one of my 600 yard groups and my 8 shot group measured exactly 3 inches......7 of the 8 were in
2-1/2 inches. Try RL-15 powder, cci 450 primers, and seating them about .015 into the lands, the ogive is shaped very much like a vld and I found they shoot good if seated into the lands).

Not in my experience. Even different brands of bullets perform differently. Get an 8" twist and you'll have no problems with that weight of bullet.

You referring to Nosler 95gr Ballistic Tips?

I shot them out of a couple 10 twists around 4500f above the ocean from 2900fps all the way to around 3300fps in bigger cases and they were one of the most accurate bullets I used in 10 twists, for "normal" hunting you can just load and go but if you want accuracy I would measure and class them first.

I used the last 100 I had to FF 100 pieces of brass on my first 6SLR and at 110y I think I shot 22 or 25 of them though one ragged hole

I have 6br shilin 1-10 I tried 90's and 95's didn't work for me . 88 bergers and 87 were great 80gr. bergers were awesome.
shooting down in the one's and two's 88 shot ok @600yds 2 1/4. even the 90's didn't work for me I was shooting rl 15
cci 450 and varget .262 nk. I don't think I could get the speed out of a 24 inch barrel.

They would not stabilize the 95 SMK and the 95 Spencers I went to a 8 twist and never looked back. Well really I gave up on the 95's and went with the 103 Spencers as long as he made them..... jim

I have shot a bunch-0-bullets in various 6mm rifles with 9-1/8 and 10" twist ,,,(all various factory bbls.) I found a threshold of good/bad accuracy to be at length of 1.100" and BC of .430 ,,,any longer or higher BC gave poor accuracy ,,,,,I didnt read this in any book/manual,,,,it has been realized over 50 years of trial and error,,,,with a 10" twist I feel the best bullet for accuracy and retained energy while using bbls with ~10" is the Berger 87gr VLD...this twist will shoot 100 gr sierra sbt's but the 87 vld has higher muzzel vel and more retained velocity downrange and more retained energy,,,,Roger
