And it needs scratching. How would one go about building a 6.5mmBRX? I think this would make for a good walking varminter round in a medium weight barrel. Are there any dies or reamers available for this at the time? Thanks for any help.

250-3000 Savage case is 1.912" in length, rated for 45,000 CUP. 6.5 Creedmoor's 1.920" so you may end up a bit short on neck starting from 250-300 Savage.

Then there's the 62,000 psi (CIP) pressure that 250-3000 Savage brass wasn't built to withstand.

My experience using 25REM brass (34,000-36,000 psi) for 6HAGAR (closer to 60,000 for typical match loads) suggests brass life likely will be somewhat short.

250-3000 Savage served as parent brass when 22-250 Rem was developed, that's where the 250 came from. Perhaps modern 22-250 brass would serve you better?

Thanks spclark for the advice. Guess I will fork over the money for new 6.5 Creedmoor brass and keep the 250-3000. I have a lot of it. I've shot factory 100gr. Rem. Core Loc's in my Ruger International 18in barrel for years. I've taken varmints from Blackbirds to Coyote and lots of deer with it. I hear its not big enough for whitetails but they don't go far and no tracking. Thanks again for the info.

The brass is not limited to 45Kpsi - the 250-3000 case is the very same case used to make the 22-250. The companies do not make a special weak version, it would be a liability problem. All modern cases are strong enough to handle 65-ish kpsi, reguardless of their caliber designation.

45kpsi is the pressure limit of LOADED rounds in 250-3000 - that is because of the Savage 99 lever gun, which was/is VERY weak.

I have shot 6 BR and 6BRX for years. I have had the 6.5mm itch years, then the 6.5 x 284 came to rise in early 2000's, but they are very hard on barrels. Then again when the 6.5 x 47 came out. I have looked at the 6.5mm on BR and BRX case. I have looked at the speed and ballistics, not enough gain for ME to make the change. I have been looking at a 6.5 X47 barrel for my Savage LRPV.

I don't have a walking varminter rifle, it is a sit down, long range 6BR and 6BRX. I do have a walking pistol, Savage Striker in 6BR.

You should be able the use a 6BRX F/L bushing die with a 6.5 bushing and expander for sizing cases. A 6.5 x 47 seater should work for seating. if not, you could have Wilson seater reamed.

I've been pondering a 6.5brx lately also. I'm thinking if I use the new dasher brass with the longer neck and still push the shoulder forward so the neck is as long as a normal BRX it would have that little extra capacity to push 123ish bullets.

I have a 20" 6.5mm BRX in an AR and it's a pretty neat little round. I use a 6mm BRX die backed off .100" with a .282" bushing to size cases. It runs right around 2700fps with a 130gr bullet but shoots better with the 123s at about the same velocity.

FWIW, I have a 6.5 Grendel built off of a CZ 527 that's exactly what you're describing as a walking varmint rifle. It comes in about 150fps behind the BRX but it makes up for it in portability. It's my walking in the wood rifle here in WA and I wouldn't hesitate to shoot anything in this state with it at appropriate ranges.
