6.5 x 47 Lapua Still competitive?

Team,

Looking for some reassurance. In 2014 I parted with a significant chunk of money and commissioned a 6.5x47 rifle, at the time it was the way forward and seemed the obvious, perhaps fashionable, choice.
For a number of reasons the rifle has still to find it's way into my hands and in the mean time we have seen the rise in popularity of 6.5 creedmoor, which appears to have a solid footing now as well as 6.5 PRC and a couple of others which may or may not stand the test of time.

I am guessing that there must be good reasons why the industry went behind 6.5 Creedmoor and not the 6.5x47 Lapua.

Once I get up and running, can I expect to be out performed by every Joe with a factory 6.5 Creedmoor or is there more to it than I am reading?

You’ve been waiting since 2014 for a rifle to get finished??
Holy Smokes
Anyway I’d not worry to much about the creedmoor because from what I’ve observed most have moved on to Dashers

The 6.5x47 is still a good shooter, most have moved on to the 6mm because of
improved bullets and less recoil.
The Creedmore and PRC has become popular because of Hornady's commitment to it.
Marketing, plain and simple. The 6.5x47 is a Lapua design (I think) and they never pushed
it in the states as much as Hornady has promoted the 6.5 creed and PRC

I just built one to get away from the Creedmoor hype. I still have a 6mm Creedmoor and it's a shooter, 10 times better than the 6.5 it replaced. But hating the guys in the club telling everybody "if it aint a Creedmoor it wont shoot" I built the 6.5x47 and what little I have got to shoot it so far it's a laser...

They are both good cartridges, but as RANGER188 said, it is all about the backing and marketing. The Creed got the press and partnerships here in the US, with multiple producers of ammo and factory rifles. The Lapua essentially remains a custom target proposition. I am not knocking the Lapua though, I have a M70 with a 6.5 Lapua barrel that I shoot around .5 MOA with some groups down to .3, and liked it so much I had a full on custom tube gun built by Borden in the same caliber.

PS: if I had to wait that long for a rifle, I would have been looking for a new gunsmith a long time ago!!

Just shot mine today out to 850. Getting a little long in the round count but, Wow.
It's like the 6.5 of the 6BR. Easy button.
It just made my decision on which rig to bring to the season opener in Raton.

I was actually referring to the PRS guys out my way that seem to be running Dashers for some reason.
