New Forum Area for 22s and Smaller

Many of our readers have requested a dedicated forum area for the 22s, 20s and micro-calibers. The .20 Tactical and .204 Ruger are getting very well-established, and a good number of our users shoot a .223 or 22-250.

Feel free to discuss any topic related to 22s and the micro-calibers, but please put tool/gear questions in the Gear Section and general gunsmithing discussions should be placed there. But here is a forum where you can discuss .22- and .20-caliber loads, bullets, brass and wildcatting.

Hi,

I'm another shooter that will add his name to that growing list. I just went and picked up my brand new Kimber Pro Varmint in .204 Ruger.

I do intend to be shooting factory ammo, just to build up a supply of brass) and to see what projectiles it likes.

I see that Nosler are making 32gr Ballistic Tip Varmint projectiles as well as 40gr. Thats great news, since i'll be reloading for it in the not too distant future. I was using the 70gr Ballistic Tip varmints in my .243 with great success.

Regards,

Michael.

Hi all. just getting back into loading, after a 18yr hiatis. just had my win 43 rechambered to 218 Mashburn Bee.I'll be looking for loads and discussion. thanx

Cost aside, .223 Remington fare is a potent nich'e regarding thrice a week shooting. Since I shoot a hundred rounds plus per week, no, I don't find this a cheap hobby, nor do I find CONSTANT primer shortages a PLUS. What happens when I totally run out of primers? I can purchase the best of brass and the finest of powder, along with the cream of bullets, yet I cannot fire anything without decent primers. I'm a dedicated handloader and target shooter approaching 10x quality accuracy, yet primers are impossible to replenish currently. What Gives? cliffy

Cliffy, http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com will get you to Midsouth supply, click on reloading, then on primers, they have about anything you want in stock, i do not know where you live but primers are in most stores around here.

good shooting,
Bob

I have a H&R 17/223 built on a Sako action that is the prettiest little rifle you will ever see. My dad bought the first one ever to hit New Mexico and it has accounted for many coyotes, bobcats and one pronghorn antelope. Bolt action, it holds six in the magazine and is a tack driver. My kids grew up shooting cottontail heads off for table fare.

I have been shooting a .19 Badger for the last year and LOVE it. I hesitated at first because there is only one source of bullets from www.jamescalhoon.com but my Badger shoots the 32gr at .291 and it BLOWS ground squirrels...........James did a great job rebarreling it with a PacNor Super Match SS
I shoot 17.4 gr of AA2200.
I purchased 500 cases and 2000 bullets................that should last me throgh this spring and fall...............
Barrel life is about 7000 rounds.
The CZ 527 is a great shooter.......................

I really like the small caliber I found after shooting 308 for sum time I am recall sensitive and found the 223 a lot more fun at 500 yrds. I just built a 221 fireball for 200 yrds just breaking it in at this time No recall and a lot less power and lot of fun.

I will be starting a project gun in the near future and I am looking for ideas and thoughts. My plans are to build a 6mm-.224. I will be using a Stiller custom action and a #5 contour Shilen match grade barrel at 26 inchs in length. I will be building this with the idea of shooting 68 grain bullets. I am also going to have the chamber cut to 6mm AI specs, so I guess it would be a 6mm improved-.224. I'm sort of in the dark as to rate of twist. I've been looking at the newer .223 that shoot heavy bullets and they are around a 1-8 or 1-9 twist. Thoughts on this.

I to am going to join the 204 ruger club, I have been prepping brass today and just messing around with the Wilson ss hand dies in anticipation …I don’t even have a rifle yet, im custom building one, on the stainless steel viper action, and im still in the very early stages... its going to be a while before i pull the trigger on one, but it will be hot when its done. i should have added that it will have a kriger 1.4 to 1.1 taper at 25 inches one in 10 twist.... iv ordered a ST 1000f Tracker from bill Shehane.

You have chosen what I belive to be the best twist for the .204, 1:10!!

Should rival and beat the 22-250 at many offerings :)

I just wish some/more factory guns came in this twist...
