Zermatt origin cycling question

DLT

Silver $$ Contributor
My origin came today from Altus. I cycled it by hand several times, it’s my first action I ever bought so of course I wanted to play with it. Once I got home I pulled the bolt out and looked at the lugs one has the finish wore off and the other appears to not even make contact. Is this because it doesn’t have a trigger mounted ? Have I hurt anything ?

Don’t judge it till you get it built up.
If there is a problem zermatt will take care of it.

Trigger does influence the action.

I’m not I just don’t know enough to know, I know the firing pin let’s down as the bolt closes. That’s about it. Just thought it was unusual. I have reloaded and made factory rifles sing for a few years but that’s about it.

All the Zermatt’s I have (which is more than I care to admit, my wife may see this) I’ve never had to lap or true the lugs…they come fully engaging the lugs...with or without triggers in/on them.

What trigger for it ? I have felt a trigger tech special it felt fine to me. I’m seeing people have had issues with cocking on close ? Might have to have the action timed, is all new to a novice like me so any input would be greatly appreciated. I don’t have my heart set on any trigger. Mostly for hunting and paper punching zero competition. Only bragging rights

I’ve used Trigger Tech special, Diamond and primaries…plus Bix Tac Sport. I’ve not had any of the troubles you hear/read about on the hide...but I’m not an operator and I’ve never broke a bolt stop. ;)

Why would you want to buy a trigger that you know has issues? Buy a Jewel HVR and set it according to directions. By changing supplied springs and adjusting, it will take you from 2 oz. to several pounds. I have owned one for about 25 years with no issues.

If it truly has only one lug contacting then the time is now to send it back to get it taken care of. I can't tell you how many times I've had them come out of the box only contacting on one lug. One recent one was really bad and it went back right away. They fitted a new bolt. Highly annoying.

Were you planning on installing a pre-fit yourself or having a gunsmith fit a barrel for it?

Have someone knowledgeable check it for you.

Some actions are designed with cock on close and some are not. Can't tell you how the Origin was designed as I have never had one in my hands. The Bighorn's I've handled do have cock on close. Many action manufacturers the last few years or so have been re-designing their bolts to get rid of cock on close and it's hard to keep up with them all.

If you were referencing Trigger Tech's causing cock on close I have not found them much different than others. I've used a number of them on BAT's and Defiance (Rem 700's too but that's a different story) and they hit just about right with mby a little tweaking needed if you are picky. On a BnA you can get different sears to move it a bit. On a field rifle I'll take my TT's or a BnA over the Jewell's. I've sold off all the Jewell's I think but mby two.

One of Their actions or others ?

Never had an Origin in my hands. A couple of TL3's have been fine.

And unless they've changed the TL3's definitely had cock on close so I might think the Origin would too regardless of trigger used. The last TL3 I checked had a fair amount of cock on close with .210" of pin fall with a BnA Tac Sport Pro. Wish I could remember the amount of cock on close but it wasn't a little bit, it was noticeable. I'll see if I can find/recall the measurement.

I believe at one time if you ordered your action from Zermatt and told them the trigger you wanted to use they would ship it with the cocking piece in the bolt to match your trigger for less cock on close. They're pretty easy to talk to on the phone.
