Zermatt action question

They were CrN. I’m certain of this- at least as certain as I can be when it came straight from Zermatt.

They are nowhere near the same quality. I also have several of both and the CrN are leaps and bounds better.

All that being said, they’re still in my top 2 choices.View attachment 1723415

The bolts and bolt heads were NP3 in the beginning of the TL3 release as I stated. I have 2 of them in the safe right now. I have been working with Bighorn, now Zermatt for many many years. I just confirmed with Ray, the original TL3's in the beginning were indeed NP3 coated and were before his time at Bighorn/Zermatt (pre-2017). From 2017 on they were CrN as you stated and I have 4 of those as well. The CrN are shinier than the dull looking NP3. I always assumed those silver looking bolts were all NP3 because thats what my first 2 are and just thought they changed applicators, surface prep, etc.. Then they switched to nitride which I have 4 of also.

So I stand corrected, they were CrN for a period but were NP3 in the beginning as I remebered.

@padom my lower serial numbers are CrN (1700s) then two of the NP3 (2300s) which I sold- and the rest nitride. I don’t know how that happened, but I definitely wish they’d go back to the “shiny” version as it was by far the best and shows no wear after multiple barrels.

They may have had inventory of bolts because they go in any TL3. Idk.‍

I was on the original pre-order for the TL3 when it was announced replacing the TL2.

I will have to check what those serial# are... Those actions came in the raw SS with no coating and NP3 bolts and boltheads in the very beginning. I had both of my action bodies DLC coated independently after arriving from Bighorn from the beginning.

Bighorn at the time then eventually started offering SS or the option to have it DLC. Then DLC became a standard at some point along the way.

At one point during NP3 but before CrN they had a NP3 applicator issue with peeling on bolt heads. They messed with it for a while with the applicator then switched to Nitride bolt heads permanently.

Honestly NP3 was my favorite coating. Super slick and shoes zero wear. If you see in my Pic, not a mark on that NP3 bolt while you can see lines/qear on the other 2.

I have zero complaints with any of them they all work great and are nice and slick. I just preferred the NP3
