Zermatt action question

Who here has one?
Are the Zermatt action small like the remington model seven actions?
Do the Zermatt action accept remington model 700 triggers and after market parts?
What mag systems are you using ?
PTG stealth bottom metal and aics magazines.
Or drop it in an MDT chassis..

Who makes a quality rifle action the size of the rem model seven. Left handed.
Not CZ, not Howa mini.
(Think more kelbly, Bat ) a small custom action for a precision rifle build to mimic the Remington model seven size, but in lefty bolt, lefty port.
Thanks folks.

I have two Zermatt Origins. Another 700 clone, but with Savage small-shank barrel threads, interchangeable bolt heads, mechanical ejector, pinned recoil lug and scope rail, bayonet style bolt disassembly. Might be more accurate to call them '700 footprint' than 'clone'. Takes 700 triggers, etc. AFAIK they are AICS or BDL only - not AW. I've used mine in a McMillan A6 stock with Seekins bottom metal, a KRG Bravo chassis and an ARC Xylo chassis. They all played nice together.

Thank you everyone..
Are the Zernmatt action worth the extra money ?
Over a remington 700? Are they more of a tight smooth custom action..
For twice the money, is it twice the tolerance specs? no sloppy draging bolt on ruff bolt rails feel like a hacksawblade haha zzzzzip!

Yes. Twice the features, easily. Pinned rail, and lug? Pay a gunsmith to add that to a 700. Interchangeable bolt handles? Pay a gunsmith. Bayonet quick-release firing pin assembly? Mechanical ejector, with controlled round feed? Not sure you can pay a gunsmith enough to make that kind of mod to a 700. Pre-fit chambered barrels - either with a Savage barrel nut (when I got my first one) or shouldered (last few years) - again, not something you're going to find for a factory 700. Overall fit-n-finish is easily 2-3x better than a factory Remington. And yes, they are generally smoother operating all around.

The TL3 is supposed to be another notch up the quality/features ladder. No first-hand experience with those, so I can't say one way or another.

Good points. You get interchangeable bolt heads with Origin and TL3. Simple swap barrels and bolt heads to switch between 223 and 308 and 300wsm and any other calibers with 0.378, 0.473 or 0.555 case head all on your single action. Also get DLC coating with the TL3.. I think the Origin is Nitride..

I have 40+ shouldered barrels for my TL3's i can screw on to any of the 7, swap in the correct bolt head and go shoot.

It’s not twice the money once you polish the turd of a 700 to be even close to the Origin and even then it won’t be as good as an Origin. As the above posters mentioned you get so much more from an Origin than a 700. Bottom line is given the choice between the two only an idiot would take a 700. ;)

Here endith the lesson.
Thank you all again
And i totally forgot
There is a nice fee involved for trueing up the Remington actions to make them worth putting a 500- 600$ barrel on.

Im ordering.

Ooops one more question.
The actions are offered in different tang thickness
To my understanding the thicker the tang the better..when it comes to action bedding.
Im probably putting this action in an MDT chassis
What tang thickness should i order on the TL3 short action. The big Kahuna? Haha
Standard, medium, thick.
Thanks

I'd suggest getting in touch with Zermatt with that question. They're incredibly knowledgeable and happy to help. I had a question on using a B&A Competition trigger on my Origin, and I had an answer from Ray himself in under 24 hours.

Also, Northland Shooters Supply tends to keep most Zermatt actions in stock; might be worth checking with them before you commit to a wait time with Zermatt.

I think you'll be very happy with your TL3 -- they're a massive step up from a standard Remington 700.

I use the medium on my two and they work fine with chassis and stocks. You can see the thickness in the pic below.

Trim tang in a hunting stock, medium in everything else.

Sometimes they’re a little sticky for the first 100 rounds or so. I usually just break mine in while watching TV. I wipe the bolt and raceway down with WD 40 every 10-20 cycles and they slick right up.

They used to have chromed bolts and they were amazing. I guess someone at Zermatt thought black looked better.

Not many places have a left bolt, left eject action laying around in 2025.
Everything i want is always (special order) i often ask my self
If its ao special, why isnt it in stock..

Ooooh that because they fly off the shelf.
Hahaha...us lefty have heard every excuse in the book.
Were screwed coming and going in the gun world. I learned that back in 1980..

Usually if what i want is in stock its because some one sent it back and there is a problem with it.
You wouldnt believe the slip of hand ive witnessed in my time wheel-n and deal-n guns.
A lefty has to be very very picky, inspect everything with an eye loop because everything cost more for the lefty ...
I dont know why...lefties are the only ones who shoot with the bolt on the right side of the gun in the first place.
Ill order the medium.

They were never chrome.. bolt bodies and bolt heads were NP3 coated in the beginning. Bolts and bolt heads are now all nitride. Both work the same i have multiple of each..

Call Ray on Monday and order exactly what you want since left bolt left eject is not a common action laying around. Who knows, Ray might have one sitting in the shop. Wouldn't be the first time I called him to special order an action and he said I got one here im sending your way. Zermatt customer service is top-notch which makes buying an action from them an even easier decision..

And definitely go medium tang as mentioned above. If you plan to drop in a chassis you could have issues with the thick tang where the medium drops right in without issue.

They were CrN. I’m certain of this- at least as certain as I can be when it came straight from Zermatt.

They are nowhere near the same quality. I also have several of both and the CrN are leaps and bounds better.

All that being said, they’re still in my top 2 choices.IMG_7516.jpeg

NSS, James provides good service.
TL3 sticky? Man mine was smooth and slick from the get go.
I advise to order an extra bolt head if you have ANY interest in different parent cases down the road.
The newer nitride bolts can be really sticky for a bit while the waste wears off. I have one that arrived this week and I still need to break it in. Sticky sticky.

I really wish they’d go back to CrN, but I’ve been told it’ll never happen.
