Zeiss Warranty

Looking at picking up a Zeiss scope from an individual. It's not old but used, is their anything I need to make sure off before closing the deal to make sure its still warrantied? Never owned a zeiss before.

The llifetime warranty applies only to the original purchaser. Some years ago I bought a used Zeiss spotting scope from someone on this site. Approx a year later, it would not focus. Called the US Zeiss location in VA, and lady there told me no warranty for second owner. At her suggestion, I did send them the scope for a repair estimate. They send it to Germany for the estimate, then their German office contacts VA with the estimate. Took about 6 weeks, they called me, cost to repair was $900, which I refused to pay. I then spoke to the manager, and got him to do it for $600. The $300 difference represents profit the Virginia location would make. A month later I had the scope, and it was perfect. I later sold it. I believe other German optics manufacturers have the same warranty program.

Just pulled the warranty card out of the box containing my Victory scope. The warranty is both Lifetime and Transferable ;)

Why not call Zeiss and ask them?

Thanks, looks like I need to figure out where it was purchased before I buy it. It must be bought from an authorized zeiss dealer for the warranty to be good.

Sorry about the email address. If you tried it you already know it doesn't work

It is my understanding Zeiss has changed their warranty. I have an older pair of binoculars that are only warrantied for the original owner. These go back maybe 15+ years. Things change and it is hard to keep up on it. I have found it best to contact the manufacturer whenever in doubt. I use my stuff and warranties are worth money to me, I will pay extra for a good one.

Thanks, I bought the scope. He bought it from Europotics and it was never registered. I registered it online yesterday, never got a notification from them, but I'm assuming I will get something in the mail.
