Zeiss Scopes

I am thinking of buying a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x 50 scope for my 6.5x47 L. Does anyone have any experience with the Rapid Z 1000 reticle? I sounds pretty good but the reticle looks pretty busy.

Thanks,

Ron

Ron: I bought a new Zeiss 6.5-20x "Conquest" 2 yrs. ago, and was also concerned about all the "clutter", and since it's not needed for my purposes, opted for the Z Plex reticle. Am very pleased with it, and the scope overall. Gotta watch those reverse direction turret knobs though/ easy to forget after turning Leupold's and NF with the standard direction turns. Sometimes wish it had 1/8 minute clicks, but can live with the 1/4. :)

I have a 6.5 x 20 Conquest Varmiter and love it. The glass is very clear and the range marks are all below the center line. I looked at the 1000 also and thought the above center range marks made it very busy. I really like Zeiss's web site to recalculate the range marks for any load you put together. I love mine. I have a Z1000 on my 300 RSAUM, and I love it. It is a little busy, but once you get used to seeing it, it works quite nicely. One thing to keep in mind when using the upper and lower hash marks is to be sure you keep the rifle level. Mine is good to 700 yards so far, but I have to hold the 625 hash. Knowing what holds actually are is a little of a challenge. I wish I knew what MOA the particular drops were so I could SWAG a little closer on paper.

Frank,

Thanks for your comments and everyone elses too. It is interesting you stated that sometimes you wish for 1/8 minute clicks. My current scope is a Sightron 6-24x42 and it has 1/8 minute adjustments and they seem too mushy to me. I have a problem trying to rezero and counting clicks takes full concentration. That is why I'm looking for a new scope.

Why not set your sightron's knobs to read 0 at 0?

Simply take a tiny allen wrench and loosen the set screws, position to 0 and retighten them.
I took a yellow pencil (brownells or art shop) and drew a line on the erector tube right under the knob to ID where exactly the zero is, height wise.

Works perfect.

Ron: I got spoiled with 1/8 clicks on my older Leupold BR 36x's and the new NF benchrest 12-42x. At the longer distances (beyond 300 yds), one click on a 1/4 minute will move the P.O.I. too far, so sometimes am forced to hold off, but with "only" 20x available, that gets to be a guessing game. Clicks on my Leupold's & NF are positive & audible. Nomo4me: Easy enough to re-set the turret knobs on the Sightron's with the miniscule allen wrench, but extreme care is required to get the wrench all the way down to the bottom of the very tiny socket before turning, or you will round off the socket and/or wrench. Been there/done that with some of my Leupold's that have the identical sized socket set screws. 3 per turret. A call to Leupold provided some spare set screws.

Ron,

I have that Zeiss in Z plex reticle, and if your sightron has mil dots, I might be interested in some sort of a trade. PM me if you are interested.

No prob. If you are interested in buying it flat out, and saving a few hundred bucks let me know. I can always turn around and buy a mil dot. The scope is Conquest 6.5-20x50mm. It was on my 204 for a couple of years, and now it's sitting on my 300 fireball. I need a mil dot on that gun since it drops 32" from 100 to 200 yards. I need those dots to help with the hold over. I assume it has some small rings marks, but I have not taken the rings off since I put them on. They are mounted in Burris Extreme high rings.

I needed to fund another project and just sold a 6.5-20x Zeiss. I had a hard time trying to decide what to let go of. I let the Zeiss go for three reasons, not a lot of elevation adj. (fine cross hairs, no hold over options), no target turrets on mine and I had two of them. They have some of the best glass I've ever looked through. I recommend getting one with the target turrets so you can use minutes of angle instead of having to count clicks, much faster and less confusing. You can have Zeiss put on the turrets for $75 a piece I think. If you get one with reticles that you like for hold over you will be good to go for about anything. Enjoy your Zeiss, Jim
