My wife is in the market for a new scope for her long range varmint rig. She's eyeballing a Zeiss MC Conquest 6.5-20x50mm, but I'm a little concerned about the published adjustment range? The published range is 45MOA Elevation, and 28MOA windage, is that accurate? She's looking at putting this on a .223rem or a .300 WSM, depending on her mood at the time (she shoots the .223rem a LOT more than the .300, but obviously, it's a much shorter range weapon, so a 20x isn't as warranted).
So what's the skinny on these scopes? The 6mmbr.com optics page gives this scope 4 out of 5 stars, but I'm not sure that's relevant for HUNTING rifles. For her .300, a 20mph wind (granted, stiffer than we usually bother shooting in) will have her up against the limits around 850-900yrds, her .223rem would be against the sides around 400yrds. With a proper base, the DROP should be ok for either rifle, but I'm a bit concerned about the windage.
So do these scopes REALLY tap out at only 28MOA windage? The Zeiss isn't much less expensive than an NF BR 8-32x, and is actually a bit MORE than a Leup VX-III LRT 6.5-20x (although the Missus DOES prefer the silver body). Is the Zeiss Conquest worth the time, or is it a pass?
